“-20 degrees with no hot water”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Although this hotel is clean, friendly, centrally located and great value for money, we were stuck for a w hole wee kend without hot water. The weather w as - 20 degrees and snowing this is unacceptable. We kept bein told "sorry the plumbers come at 9a m tomorrow " yet nothing was fixed - great place if everything is working but I'd suggest th3 hotel work on making urgent repairs a priority. This experience has ruined my weekend holiday.

“Great value in prime location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

I booked a triple with two friends and we had no problems. When looking at the value of the room, rate vs. room itself, I think the rate is pretty good. If I were to return to Budapest, with similar budgets, I would rebook this hotel in a heartbeat.

First, the location is great. We got out of the Budapest airport, took the bus to the metro station, got off Andel station and walked just 5 minutes to the hotel. There are also numerous buses and trams that operate right by the Andel station that we found to be very convenient. There are several decent restaurants around it (near the Jewish Quarter) and supermarkets (right on Karoly Krout) not too far away. It is walking distance to both Jewish Quarter (right behind it) and Charles Bridge (maybe about 20 minutes walk?). My friends and I would leave this hotel in the morning, and have time to return to quickly rest and drop off souvenirs before moving on to the next destination as the location was very convenient.

Second, hospitality. The women at the service desk was very helpful and very nice although one of them clearly did not speak much English. They helped make dinner reservations for us and find easy commutes for our tour destinations. We also received the complimentary Hungarian wine that was very sweet and tasty.

Third, free breakfast. Each morning we were given breakfast vouchers at Bali Caffe across the street by the Andel station. Our breakfasts were decent and we had no problems with it.

Lastly, the building itself. I agree with the other travelers that the building doesn't exactly look amazing. The elevator is really small and you really can't fit more than two people (with luggage), but what do you expect for that kind of room rate. They really do need to add some lights in the staircase at night. While the accomodations weren't exactly posh, we found the place safe and it met all our needs. We travelled in the 20-30 F weather and there was ample heat, the two rack was heated, and we got fresh towels every day.

I'd recommend anyone who is going to stay here to check the pictures that were posted so that you will not bypass the building when looking for it. It's not hard to find, but it can be missed.

“Great location, inexpensive.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

This hotel is in a great location, you can explore budapest city centre on foot from here. If you don't like walking the metro, buses and trams are only a minute away. Rooms are well decorated, comfortable and quite as they are double glazed. The staff are friendly and helpful. About 12 miles from the airport, which you can travel by bus and metro if you wish, or get the shuttle bus.
A little difficult to find as the hotel is part of a much larger buliding and not well signed, you need to find your way through an iron gate into the courtyard and take the lift to the first floor. The building (not the hotel rooms) is a little old and tired, but quite authentic in a way, and typical of many of the buildings in budapest.
Complementary breakfast is in a nearby cafe one minute away, you get your vouchers from reception. For meals there are many nearby restaurants, have takeways back in your room (good money saver), or try the outdoor foods stalls, many spring up around christmas.
This is a great hotel for those who wish to explore budapest without spending too much on a hotel and taxis. Not so good for those who enjoy hotel saunas, gyms, swimming pools, restaurants and bars.

“Not for the faint of heart”

The reviews suggest this place is a great deal for the price and the location. I hate to give this place a low rating because the staff were the most friendly and welcoming people we've met and they left us a bottle of Hungarian wine in our room (which we are now completely in love with). However, travelers must be warned that this hotel is basically one step above hostel. It is in a building that is very old and not updated - peeling paint, cracked walls, missing tiles. The entrance is gated and locked at night, and in this alcoved entrance after 10 pm people use it as a place to urinate. A building superintendent is up early to wash the area out before most people are up and about, but if you happen to arrive back to your room later, you may run into someone peeing in the corner as we did. Despite this, it is a safe area and we never felt threatened personally. The location is right near an underground stop which is convenient, and is about 15 minute walk to the Danube but more like 30 minutes to the Chain Bridge. Other reviewers complain about how hard it is to find: if you follow the directions that the hotel emails you, and are paying attention, you will have no problem finding it. The bathroom is clean, but there was some mold in the shower stall and you must bring your own shampoo and soap. The rug looked worn and slightly dirty. There is no drawer space, making long stays difficult because you're living out of your suitcase. The breakfasts are at a restaurant across the street and are very, very good. There is 24 hour reception and they have some instant coffee and tea available at the front desk. My goal for making hotel reservations in Europe was to find great rooms with character in older buildings. Because Budapest was bombed so violently in WWII, one must remember that many buildings are new since the 1950's, and that the older ones may not have been renovated at all. We will return to Budapest most definitely, but will stay in a modern hotel.

“Excellent value. Try it before booking for long elsewhere.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

I iked the entire package deal! Central location, nearby subway / tram / bus connections, groceries + businesses, super accomodating team, etc. I usually don't book more than 1 night per location, however I liked this place so much I prolonged my stay in Budapest for one week because of this offer (when you're delighted, why look elsewhere and risk having less?). The highlight of my vacation!

Room Tip: Have a city block view printout of Google Maps handy to easily find the hotel.
