We were fortunate to be allocated what was actually a small apartment in the hotel extension, which was well equipped, comfortable and quiet. From what we could see of the other rooms, these too were good, many having balconies overlooking Lake Balaton.
The front desk staff were efficient and friendly and the hotel's position was very convenient being right on the waterfront. Although we didn't have time to use it, the pool looked inviting. Our rate included breakfast which was plentiful, although the cooked food was more suited to the continental Euopean taste than the British.
The bars and restaurants nearby were very economical. Our favourite was the Borcsa about an 8 minute walk away along the front, turning right out of the hotel. There is outside seating on a terrace alongside the lake. inside smart and plush furnishing with a comfortable 1960s feel to it and further covered tables outside by the boardwalk.
Try the local wine huts alongside the lakefront where locals and tourists gather for a drink or two. A deposit is required for the glasses if these are taken beyond the bar area.
We found the Hungarian people friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
