“A different experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

It is a hostel but with a difference. You open the room door and taken by surprise to see the prison bars. The cell (room) was creatively re-done but not losing the basic feeling of a prison. The restaurant and common area is very nice. The hostel has lot of life and good ambiance. The location is good, I could walk to the city center in 10-15mins. The front desk girls were very helpful to guide us to good places to eat, see and plan our day :)

“Good atmosphere, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed in Hostel Celica for 2 nights en route to Sarajevo after reading positive reviews about the place.

A great plus is its close location to the train station, an easy 5 - 10 minute walk. It is also only about a 10 minute walk into the heart of Ljubljana.

The downstairs common areas are great and always a place to meet new people. The cafe is reasonably priced and has good lunch specials. There are also various events held throughout the week, for example wednesday night was "all you can eat tortillas' for 5,90 euros. They also have live bands playing, hot dog nights, hookah nights, free board game rental etc. A great place for solo travellers.

We had originally booked a 12 bed dorm room, however they upgraded us to 4 bed dorm room. The rooms are quite small and hard to fit all your luggage in with out getting in anyones way, however the beds are quite comfortable and you don't spend much time in the room anyway! Linen is free as well as free towels which is a nice change!

Wi-fi is free, although it doesn't work up in the dorm rooms, you need to sit downstairs near the cafe to use it. Breakfast can be purchased for 2 euros, which is a bargain - cereals, yoghurt, toast, eggs, juice, coffee etc.

All the staff we had involvement with were really nice and helpful.

Overall we would definitely stay here again, we had a great time during our 2 nights here!

“Unique experience.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Great location, only a couple of mins walk from the station and close proximity to all the nearby sites. This hostel is unique in everyway, even the 12 bed dorm in the loft space, which was spacious and with proper beds and 2 ensuite showers. The staff go the extra mile with a smile :), very imforative, helpful and most importantly they are friendly and professional.

The only negative is that the in-dorm lockers are unsecure; at check-in I was given a key for an in-room locker, once in the room I opened the allocated locker and there was someone's valuables in there, I tried to see if it was a mistake by try one of the other empty lockers and my key opened several lockers, and my room mates experienced the same!

“Hostel revisited”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

I was here back in 2003 and loved the hostel so much that i was keen to come back.
When i was first here, it had only just opened - over the past 8 years it has become quite business focused, opening as a bar to the locals and seeing how many more people they can squeeze in. However it hasn't lost its hostel vibe!
We were sleeping in the main dorm - quite a squeeze and only 2 bathrooms.
I would still recommend this wonderful hostel for its cool and artistic vibe as well as its close proximity to the train station.

“Very convenient to the train station”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

I chose this place as it was very close to the train station. I got misled by some signage (this place is so popular it has its own signs, like a tourist attraction!) but shouldn't be too difficult if you follow your map or get some help along the way (some helpful cafe owner pointed it out to me).

I found it a little pricey (€21 for the 12 bed dorm) but maybe it's just Ljubljana. The shared bathroom seems to indicate male and female, but this is not followed, so it can get a little messy in the 12 bed dorms. The beds are also not lined up orderly so you could be sleeping right in the middle of a room with beds spread out all around you, or have the next bed 1 feet away from you. There are almost no space for your backpack! However, they do provide lockers, near the door. Some of the beds are ok, but if you come in late, you might end up with a bed right under the beam - which means you have to be careful when you sit up in the morning!

The cafe seems quite hip and they organise loads of activities in the evening. This is probably a good place if you are keen to hang out.

The breakfast in the morning has a decent variety (included in the price).

Staff seems friendly enough, and was pretty helpful with the bus schedule and things to do around town. However, I was a little surprised that they are relaxed with the luggage room key. They will just pass it to you (the luggage room is quite far from the reception) and you can take things our or put things in without anyone watching over you, nor does anyone check if the doors are locked properly! But of course, they already told you you should not put valuables in the bags, but instead, they offer lockers services at the reception.

Oh, one thing I really disliked about this place is the wifi does not work on the top floor. Hence, you need to bring your laptop down to the living room to access the internet. They do provide you with a login detail but it can only work on 1 item (i.e. if you have a phone and laptop, you can't access internet on both at the same time, and have to keep keying in the password each time you log in).

Overall, I would recommend this place to stay, as it is really convenient to the bus and train station, but probably not the 12 bed dorm!
