“Wonderful, homely, excellent service, fantastic food... great room”

My partner and i stayed here for one week in January 2011, this was an excellent choice, small, (10 bedrooms) friendly, very professional, excellent service, fabulous food, just the right amount of cosiness. This family run pension lived up to more than my expectations, the 2 lovely sisters were very polite and very curteous, the guest restaurant which is in the basement was absolutely gorgeous and very nicely decorated in a traditional but elegant style without being stuffy. The seafood rissotto was to die for, in fact it was hard to choose what to eat! Our room (4) was a really good size with excellent facilities, flat screen large tv, mini bar, hairdryer and lovely balcony which overlooked onto the piste that we ski-ed on during the day (lit up at night time) I cant think of a single thing to complain about and would definitely recommend this pension to anyone (would say it was probably more suited to couples) It was an easy 10 minute stroll to the main slopes which was really good as it was just far away enough for peace and tranquility at night and gentle warm-up walk to start the days ski-ing.... all in all absolutely perfect...

“Wonderful discovery, gastronomic, friendly, tiny hotel, cosy as a 5 stars”

We were quite sceptic bout Hotels and pension in Slovenia after our first stay in December 2009 in Bled.
In Pension Lipa, no comparison, we have been really impressed by the serious and strenuous work of the all family.

This family run hotel is undoubtly valuable and has not the default of a big 5 stars.... (noise, uniformity of aseptic food, impersonnally contacts).

In the morning, cooked breakfast and a large choice of bread, local cheese, cereals, yogourts and amazing choice of fresh fruit from the South (not from a box as Radisson does).
If Pension Lipa want to improove they should have real green tea leaves and water boiling (chaufferette).
Stella is serving you with smile and professionalism until 9.45. sharp.

In the evening, for guests in half board, the young sister of Stella will propose to you a choice of 10 starters and 10 main courses. Free access to salad bar between the services... excellent rucola and fresh products.

We really advise you to try Vegetarian and Rissotto and seafood rissotto. The Movia wine (Merlot) is also outstanding... Only in 5 stars hotels in Slovenia.
Slovenians can be proud of it.

We preferred the rooms south oriented (sunny) with view on the slopes and alpines mountains. The room 10 is much bigger, big balcon and pleasant but North oriented.
The room n°1 has a bath, really nice after a full day of ski or walking in mountains...
Showers in all rooms except n°1.

So we had the chance to have a promotion 500€ for 5 days, breakfast included.

I travel all around the world (India, indonesia, Brazil, PNG,...) and I have never see a so pleasant place, tiny, gastronomic (half board was just 100€ more for two for 5 days) in a wild valley during winter time... for such a fair price.

Many blue and red slopes for ski but you have to be a very good professionnal to do the black slopes in Podkoren (World Championship). So steep.
A day pass cost 29€ (valid in Kranjska and Podkoren).

We have visited the Hotel Lek (not too bad compare to HIT chain), Kompas/Larix/Prisank (same group HIT), etc... I would never change my room !!!

Parking is also quite easy, except in the evening because the restaurant is always full of guests after ski...

The father, boss is really gentle and have a clever eye on everything details from morning to midnight ! He is from Montenegro and was a cook at Slovenian embassy in Brussels.

The chief cook has also careful attention to details and change everyday details and way of preparing !

If you like nature, gastronomy, family style, diversity and a fair price : this is the place to stay a ten days.

Don't miss an excursion to the Col Vric (sometimes open, free ski in the BIG slopes) and a walk in Trenta near the peak of Triglav and don't forget the amazing waterfall in Vrata valley...

We'll come back for sure !

“Small Pension in a lovely Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

Stayed at Pension LIPA recently and enjoyed our stay.

Food and room (small ) very good. and the whole Pension was very clean.

Only downside .... was long wait for evening meal which on several occasions took almost two hours.
LIPA is open to outsiders and is very popular. Consequently Guest service suffers as Dinner is delayed by the "extra" diners. Obviously A La Carte takes longer but the delay was not due to that but the extended time delay in placing your food order.
Recommendation ... Near the back of Pension LIPA is SLASCICARNA at Koroska Ulica 13B which is a Cafe and Cake shop selling excellent homemade cakes, ice creams and coffee etc.
Prices are reasonable and a visit is highly recommended. The Owner is very friendly and most welcoming.

“A lovely small hotel close to the slopes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2010

We've just got back from a fantastic week in Kranjska Gora staying in Pension Lipa. We were made to feel very welcome in this small, family-run hotel. We stayed in room 5. The room was extremely comfortable, warm and kept immaculately clean throughout our stay and although small, had plenty of storage space. There's a small balcony overlooking the mountains. The shower was powerful and hot. There was a TV in the room, and although there are only a few English Language channels, some of the Slovenian stations had films in English with Slovenian subtitles.... not that you'll be spending much time in the room. The only slight drawback was that there are no tea or coffee facilities in the room, but that isn't particularly unusual.

As other reviewers have mentioned, breakfast and dinner are taken in the basement dining room. The food is good and the service was quick. We chatted to lots of people staying in the bigger hotels in the resort, and the food on offer in Lipa seemed the best by far. For dinner, there was a wide choice on the menu for all 3 courses (including 25 different pizzas) and is cooked to order, rather than buffet-style, meaning it's hot and fresh when it reaches your table.

The hotel is just 10 mins stroll from the slopes and 5 mins from the centre of the village, giving easy access to everything you need. It's location just outside the village centre means it's very quiet at night, so perfect for a restful night's sleep after a day on the ski slopes.

The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive.

This was our second ski-ing holiday and we found Kranjska Gora an ideal location. The scenery is stunning and the weather conditions were perfect for us, thanks to a fresh fall of snow early in the week. We booked lessons with the InterSport ski school and had a fantastic time. Our instructor struck a good balance between building our confidence and pushing us on. And the local prices aren't nearly as expensive as in the other, more popular ski resorts. On our last night we were drinking wine at 90 cents a glass in the Enka bar in the centre of the village.

One afternoon we went on an excursion to the beautiful Lake Bled - about 30 mins away by minibus and well worth the trip. We flew into/out of Salzburg and hadn't been keen on the idea of a 2-3 hour transfer. We needn't have worried, though. The scenery for much of the journey was amazing and only added to the holiday.

All in all then, a terrific holiday. I'm sure we'll go back.

“Probably the best hotel in Kranjska Gora”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2010

This was our second holiday in Kranjska Gora, last time we stayed at the less impressive Hotel Lek. This year we spent a lovely week at Penzion Lipa for a February ski trip and can highly recommend it. It’s simply a home from home.

Pension Lipa is located in the centre of Kranjska Gora. It is a charming family hotel with 10 rooms, a pizzeria with winter garden and a top a-la-carte restaurant. The owners Nikola and Zorka Perkolic run the hotel with daughters Stella and Katja, and son-in-law Bojan. The family are very friendly and welcoming, going out of their way to ensure that each guest enjoys their stay.

On the map of Kranjska Gora, the Lipa looks a little way’s away from the slopes but we were happy to discover it’s less than 10 minutes walk. Instead of carrying our skis every day, we hired a locker in the basement of the Larix Hotel (at the base of the nursery slope) for only 10 Euros a week - it held the ski equipment for all 3 of us.

Our room at the Lipa was on the first floor and was lovely - nicely decorated and spacious. Good, comfy beds with high quality duvets, the room also had Satellite TV with 40 channels and there is free wireless internet. Plus a great balcony with fabulous views of the Julian Alps (which I imagine would get more use if you came for a walking holiday in the Summer). The room was always very warm whatever the outside temperature and the shower was good, powerful and hot. Perfect after a day of skiing!

Food for hotel guests is served in the very grand basement restaurant which deservedly has the reputation of being the best in the town. For dinner, there’s a choice of 10 starters and 10 main courses every night, with a choice to suit all palates (even difficult teenagers!). Plus there's an extensive pizza menu offering superb freshly-made, charcoal-oven-baked pizzas. The desserts are outstanding including Zorka’s home-made ice cream. For breakfast, there is a cold and hot buffet and is very good.

Having travelled extensively in Europe, I can confidently say that the Lipa is far better than its 4* rating, based upon the quality of the rooms, the first-rate restaurant and the friendliness of the Perkolic family. We were very sad to leave.
