We were quite sceptic bout Hotels and pension in Slovenia after our first stay in December 2009 in Bled.
In Pension Lipa, no comparison, we have been really impressed by the serious and strenuous work of the all family.
This family run hotel is undoubtly valuable and has not the default of a big 5 stars.... (noise, uniformity of aseptic food, impersonnally contacts).
In the morning, cooked breakfast and a large choice of bread, local cheese, cereals, yogourts and amazing choice of fresh fruit from the South (not from a box as Radisson does).
If Pension Lipa want to improove they should have real green tea leaves and water boiling (chaufferette).
Stella is serving you with smile and professionalism until 9.45. sharp.
In the evening, for guests in half board, the young sister of Stella will propose to you a choice of 10 starters and 10 main courses. Free access to salad bar between the services... excellent rucola and fresh products.
We really advise you to try Vegetarian and Rissotto and seafood rissotto. The Movia wine (Merlot) is also outstanding... Only in 5 stars hotels in Slovenia.
Slovenians can be proud of it.
We preferred the rooms south oriented (sunny) with view on the slopes and alpines mountains. The room 10 is much bigger, big balcon and pleasant but North oriented.
The room n°1 has a bath, really nice after a full day of ski or walking in mountains...
Showers in all rooms except n°1.
So we had the chance to have a promotion 500€ for 5 days, breakfast included.
I travel all around the world (India, indonesia, Brazil, PNG,...) and I have never see a so pleasant place, tiny, gastronomic (half board was just 100€ more for two for 5 days) in a wild valley during winter time... for such a fair price.
Many blue and red slopes for ski but you have to be a very good professionnal to do the black slopes in Podkoren (World Championship). So steep.
A day pass cost 29€ (valid in Kranjska and Podkoren).
We have visited the Hotel Lek (not too bad compare to HIT chain), Kompas/Larix/Prisank (same group HIT), etc... I would never change my room !!!
Parking is also quite easy, except in the evening because the restaurant is always full of guests after ski...
The father, boss is really gentle and have a clever eye on everything details from morning to midnight ! He is from Montenegro and was a cook at Slovenian embassy in Brussels.
The chief cook has also careful attention to details and change everyday details and way of preparing !
If you like nature, gastronomy, family style, diversity and a fair price : this is the place to stay a ten days.
Don't miss an excursion to the Col Vric (sometimes open, free ski in the BIG slopes) and a walk in Trenta near the peak of Triglav and don't forget the amazing waterfall in Vrata valley...
We'll come back for sure !
