We spent a couple of nights at Hotel Miklic during a recent visit to Slovenia. It's easy to see why it's so highly rated among Kranjska Gora hotels, and it was probably the best place we stayed in all of Slovenia.
The hotel rooms are spacious and well-appointed. Everything is very well kept and feels practically new. In addition to the usual bed and nightstands there was a sitting area with a coffee table, sofa, and a fairly large flat screen TV. The bathroom was also quite spacious and included both a shower stall and a jetted tub. The hotel's location is quiet at night, and you can walk wherever you need to go (Kranjska Gora is tiny). If the day is clear the views out your window or door are pretty impressive, too.
As others have mentioned, the restaurant at this hotel is quite good and is well-known among the locals. We had a half-board package, so both breakfast and dinner were included in our stay. Both were among the best meals we encountered in Slovenia. Dinner was an especially good four-course meal, with too many enticing options to choose from. I strongly recommend the onion soup, but you can't really go wrong here. The breakfast offerings were typical of Slovenia (breads, meat, cheese, fruit, cereal, juice, eggs), but of a better quality than we found elsewhere.
The service was especially good here and, again, some of the best we experienced anywhere in Slovenia. The first night we stayed here the gentleman who checked us in was also our waiter at dinner, and was one of the most professional and pleasant waiters I've ever seen anywhere. That may be an odd comment to make, but he was so good that it really stuck with us and we were still talking about it the next day.
Why only four stars? I had to ding them a little for a couple of things: First, there is free wi-fi, but the signal is only strong enough to pick up in the lobby (this was strangely common in Slovenia). They have a comfortable sitting area in the lobby, but I still would have preferred to use it from my room. Second, the shower stall didn't have any sort of shelf or ledge for storing soap, shampoo, etc., which just felt like a strange oversight. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the mattresses were below average, which was again strange given how well the rooms were otherwise appointed. Overall I thought the strengths outweighed the weaknesses and would recommend the hotel to others.
