This was not the first time we've stayed here but it was the first time we've stayed in the winter.
When we arrived, the staff in the hotel watched as I began to unpack the car of bags and then several minutes later a taxi arrived with a young couple with one bag and the porter came out and brought their bag into the hotel. He stood next to their bags as they checked in and only several more minutes after I had unloaded the bags, come inside to collect a luggage trolley, brought the trolley outside and half-loaded it did the porter decide to come and ask me if I wanted any help. (He still had the cheek to do the porter-waiting-for-a-tip pause once he'd dumped the bags in our room.)
We had booked an 'Executive Room', as usual, but it seemed to be a normal room with the extra coffee machine plugged in. The perception of size wasn't helped by the fact that when we arrived, there were 2 extra beds for our kids - I had informed the hotel the kids are 4 years and 10 months old. I asked at reception for one of the beds to be changed for a cot and when we returned after dinner, we had a cot - in addition to the 2 extra beds. After the kids had gone to sleep we discovered that the air conditioning was broken and was only pumping out hot air. We finally contacted reception and someone came up to confirm that it was broken and that we could open the window to cool the room down. We asked to be moved to another room and - to their credit - we accessed the room on the other side of the corridor and were able to move the kids there.
The food and service in the restaurant was below standard for this type, and chain, of hotel. In the past, a waiter offered our older child colour pencils and a colouring pad/activity sheet. This time we went and asked for it.
Every time we've stayed in a Novotel, the kids get a little gift when we're leaving - maybe this policy has changed - they didn't get anything this time. There was a game console in the kids corner - although it was turned on and kids could see some game demo it was, in fact, broken.
I can only believe that the staff change in different seasons and our most recent stay in this hotel means we will not stay there again (although I have an Novotel/Accor loyalty card) and will choose to stay at the Marriott if we're wanting to stay at an airport hotel in Warsaw. We will be contacting Novotel directly about our stay.
