Not a hotel as such but a newish six bedroom annex in a residence back garden. The plumbing and heating (no a/c) was sound but bring your own towel and soap as only one hand towel is supplied and not changed daily. I think they might be somebodys cast offs as I noticed a different though equally small towel in the next room that happened to be open. No maid service either not that it takes much to rearrange a duvet. Bed wasn't overly comfortable. Only real gripe was the lack of sound proofing in the party walls, everything is overheard from the neighbours and I had one night that was really embarrassing. TV is all Polish no CNN. Hot drink facilities are provided but bring your own ingredients. No meals on site or vending machine and the small kitchen is basic. Minerska is right out on the edge of the city in the Zdrowie area as well and there is nothing there but a few houses. There are not so many hotels in Lodz and they seem pricey, 6 Minerska is OK if you just want somewhere to crash out and haven't set your sights too high. Public transport was reasonable, trams 9 and 43, stop Zdrowie (only 50 yards away from Minerska bus stop). Bus 6 and 76 (stop Minerska) run 2 or 3 to the hour. Catch a 6 from outside Kaliska rail station, the L bus from the airport stops there. 24 hour tickets are 9.60 Zloty approx £2 but will be a bit more now with sterling in freefall. The trams are real clunkers, filthy, graffitied inside, with rusty bodywork, uncomfortable seats, there are few modern ones. Busses are better but both trams and busses can get pretty crowded at any time of day. The roads are something else as well. I found cabs cheap as chips but there is no uniform colour for them and ranks are not common either plus the streets are not exactly bristling with cabs in motion.

Stayed in self catering, twin rooms located in the garden of the owners' house. Basic, clean and cheap. Shared kitchen at the end of the block with all the basic utensils. Friendly and helpful owners!!

Location is some distance from the city centre, however once you've mastered the trams/buses this shouldn't prove too much of a problem (15mins to Piotrkowska Street). Ensure you get a collection of tram/bus tickets, one for each journey, as soon as you arrive in Lodz since there seems to be nothing in the way of kiosks, shops, etc. nearby the hotel. Found out fines for not having a ticket are steep - and seemingly arbitary!. There is a snack bar in the park on the opposite side from the zoo entrance, but couldn't find a great deal else.

Hotel is awesome! I've contacted them directly by email to book a single room (surprisingly, through internet-booking engines you can only book double, which is 10 zl more expensive). The problem was that check in is till 10 pm, and I was going to arrive later, but the manager (Wlodzymyrzh) said that its OK!

On my way I was running even more late and actually arrived to hotel at half past 11, but gave manager a call when I was on my way, as he again said its allright, welcomed me to hotel, showed place to park bike (hotel has quite secure private parking, and my bike was parked just in front of my room). Manager speaks good english, also, and seems to love bikes :).

The hotel is good, room is of good size, has TV, and shower/toilet is OK.

Have a note of the reception number, as it was difficult to find anyone whom I can pay for my room in the morning, so had to give call to reception.

Also, there is communal kitchen in the hotel, but I didn't have chance to use it.

Overall, I'm very satisfied, for its price hotel is great!
