Hotel Zaulek is located in a quiet street next to the University and at the edge of the old town. Very good Polish food served in the restaurant. Breakfast particularly good. All reception staff spoke English, which was a great help to me. All staff very helpful.
Many bars and and restaurants close by. Five mins walk to the main square.
Hotel Zaulek would be my choice if I return to Wroclaw.
Note: No elevator, but this was of no concern to me.

I stayed at Zaulek for three nights during a conference visit.
The hotel is apparently owned and run by the University of Wroclaw. The staff were very kind and helpful and helped me with several issues. They spoke reasonable English. The lady at the restaurant did not speak almost any English. The breakfast was fine and structured in 4-5 different menus. As a vegetarian, I had to ask them to change part of their standard menu for me but it went smoothly. The rooms were ok; they were a bit old and weary and perhaps not as clean as one might wish but otherwise fine for a short stay. There is a free wireless internet connection and even the hotel offered me a WiFi network card, which I did not need. All in all, I can defintely recommend it for a short stay. For a longer stay, you may want to look for something a bit cleaner and better maintained.

This was our first visit to Poland, despite being seasoned European travellers. Arriving on an early evening flight meant arriving in the dark, though with some preparedness we found the Zaulek in good time (catch tram to Hala Targowa tram stop from side of train station).

The location of the Zaulek is great in a quiet location next to the University, though within easy walking distance to the Rynek (main square).

Zaulek proved to be quite expensive by English standards so expect to pay the equivalent of a night in a travelodge, albeit with an included tasty two course cooked breakfast.

Accommodation was quiet, though dated (70's chintz) and our double was in fact two singles at either end of the large room (though very possibly a communication breakdown)! There was also a significant amount of mould in the shower. To compensate, the mini-bar was incredibly cheap!

To sum, if you're looking for a couple of night's stay in a good location then I'm sure you could find worse, but if you're staying any longer you'd likely find better for the same money.
