“Terrible and smelly”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

I was looking for a cheap hotel and this one looked quite resonable, but for this price actualy I was expecting something better. The room given us first was stinky from cigarettes, gray-dirty looking curtains and old decor. They didnt change anything probably from 60th.
I requested to change the room, which was easy, they didnt ask much just gave us another key. The second one was much better, very basic though, but not stinky. The breakfast was awfull, lots of heavy, mayonasy stuff and even bread wasnt fresh. I definietly wont stay there anymore! I could recommend Puro Hotel in Wroclaw, it was great in every way.

Room Tip: if you want a good room go somewhere else

“Could it be magic ?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

No it definitely was not magic. If you enjoy a spot of light housework and have no sense of smell, then this is the place for you! We were under the impression that it was a three star hotel and the rooms were habitable. However, when we arrived and checked in at the dark but strangely welcoming lobby, we made our way up in the outdated lift to discover that the whole hotel smelt of cigarettes and urine. It was in fact a two star rating and in refurbishment (or so we were told as we complained!)
When we opened the door to our room, it was even more of a surprise! The room that we book was described as a superior triple room. I am still at a loss as to what was superior about it. Was it...the mould growing on the walls behind the beds? The non-existent heating (including when the thermostatic valve came off in my hand when I tried to put the raidiator on)? The filthy bathroom which I had to clean, after buying cleaning products at the local drug store or was it the hooligans that tried to knock the door down at 2.30am? Or when the waitress shouted at an elderly gentleman at breakfast for taking an extra piece of bread and cheese with his? We booked to stay four nights but moved out after one.
This however, was not a simple case of affairs. The hotel staff openly lied about being unable to refund our money and I had to call the booking firm on my mobile to get them to sort it out for me. After a heated debate we were still told that our money would not be refunded and had to personally go to see the marketing director at another location a few streets down. He apparently would decide as to whether to refund our money or not. I did point out that this was stealing but the hotel staff did not seem to care. After a while, the hotel manager was contacted at home and said that she would only refund the money the next day after it was approved by both the marketing department and the booking firm. So, we returned the next day, expecting to see the manager, but she was hiding. In fact a junior member of staff was left to deal with the whole situation and no apology was offered. If we were unable to speak Polish I very much doubt we would have got anything back at all. I believe that this is a totally spineless approach to customer care as no responsibility was taken by the hotel management whatsoever. I am a seasoned traveller and have visited hotels around the world and have never seen anything like this in my life!!!

“A comfortable budget place to stay - worry free!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

I stayed at Polonia for 7 nights in a single room. I opted for the single twin which was great. The room was in the older part of the hotel but was really large with a good work space, two comfy chairs and coffee table and a large bathroom. So much room for a single person! The TV was ancient and had 5 channels, but i didn't come to Wroclaw for TV anyway! The cleaner came everyday and brought new towels and a cheery smile. The breakfast was in the adjoining restaurant and had a lot of meats, egg, sausage, cereal, bread and the normal hot drinks. It wasn't included in my price so just make sure when you buy online. However I did accommodate myself a couple of times!
The hotel was 10-15mins from the centre, a lovely walk. Great location to the traiin station and bus link to airport (10 mins away).
The receptionist and owner were so so hospitable.
Noise did travel down the corridors when poeple were leaving their rooms. The hotel is quite echoey, but I had earplugs so heard nothing and slept so well.
There is no strong Wifi connection in the rooms - it oscillated from low to very low. But in the communnal area (stank of smoke) you can get good reception.
Highly recommend Polonia. It's not luxurious, the furniture is wooden and the decor is so plain, but great for the budget traveller, who wants a quiet place that's safe, which you can't really get in a hostel.

“Very good value excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2011

This hotel is in a slightly rundown condition but having said that the room was very good and very clean. Breakfast is excellent and the location of the hotel near to the station and bus stop from airport is hard to beat. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall this hotel is excellent value for money.

“value...but very basic”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

this hotel suffers from a post communist hangover, bit tired and old, but for the price we found it adequate. Pluspoints are it's location (minutes walk from the station and old city centre), breakfast is basic yet ok. Staff was friendly and efficient when we were there, beds were rather high, but had new mattrasses, but the rest of the room was in great need of a lick of paint and the bathroom was very very basic. If you just need a place to put your head down for a very good price than this is the place for you.
