We stayed in Zakopane for a few days and absolutely loved it.
The Villa Carlton was a lovely old guesthouse out of the main touristy hotspot. We could relax on the grand old balcony at the end of a huge day with a gin & tonic and overlook the surrounding gardens, with a view to the snow capped mountains. The staff were very helpful and were able to help me in English which I appreciated very much!
There was a beautiful old room in the foyer with a grand piano, lounge chairs with a flat screen, and wireless internet throughout the Villa.
All in all a great place to stay while exploring the sights. Will definately try and return.
We arrived late May when the wildflowers were blooming, but found it abit tricky to arrange 'tours'. Not to worry, there are enough english signs around to find the Cable Cars of Mt Gubalowka and Kasprowy Wierch (dont miss them!!!!) the Dunajec Gorge was difficult to organise and the tour company were abit lack lustre! I'm not sure of the name, but they were on the same road as the Bus station, on the opposite side of the road. very average and obviously sick of tourists! The Gorge raft trip was definately worth doing, such a beautiful float through the forests of Poland and Slovakia.
We found it very easy to walk to and from the main street for meals and it felt ok to walk at night with a friend.
The Villa also serves a great breakfast between 8-10am.
There is a long tradition of Poles coming to Zakopane to holiday or find artistic inspiration. We certainly felt that vibe staying here in the Villa Carlton! it was great.
