Orbis Giewont Zakopane (Mercure Orbis Giewont Zakopane) use to be really good hotel... Years ago unfortunately. I use to have there my school practice approximately 10 years ago. Now I go there as a guest and what can I see? Exactly the same hotel when I was there years ago... That's kind of sad, especially that new owner (Accor) doesn't really care about that hotel. Previous elegant restaurant was sold out and now there is Pizza Hut and KFC. Hotel was not renovated or refurbished in these 10 years. It's exactly the same.
I have to say, that even with staff effort, they can not make miracles. Hotel inside and outside looks old and dated. Rooms are not fresh and bathroom is honestly a major dissaster.
My check-in experience was really good, especially that I made my bookings on the same day as arrival (on-line via Accor Reservation system). Staff at Reception knew everything and had all my details. That was surprising, but that's how that should work. Well done. I used parking across the road or near "Dom Turysty", 200 m from the hotel, as they offered much better rate for secured car park.
My room was on the top floor, overlooking Krupowki street (main street) and partial mountain view. The only one terrible thing with that was a crazy, amazingly large LED sign on the street, which I could see even during the night lying on the bed. That was so annoying. Who had such stupid idea to have something like that (and that strong) in the center of town! Hotel should make some complaints to city officials. Room doesn't have air condition and it was so warm there due to heating system, which was actually unable to control. I'm glad that it wasn't opposite - I still preffer to be overheated than frozen. There was as well a kettle and tea/coffee in the room, clean and good quality products.
Internet access doesn't exist. Hotel provider is so bad, that I didn't even try to waist any minute this time (I did it my previous stay). There is alternative, with Orange network, but... You need to buy a pre-paid card (not available in reception) and on-line payment with credit card is not possible. That was just stupid and I was so frustrated.
Bathroom was small and sooooo dated. It was clean, but it doesn't look like. It was just old. You know, some broken tiles, limescale signs etc. I didn't like Toiletries provided. They are like from 'the cheapest super-market'. Really horrible.
During my previous stay few months earlier, I have filled up 'Guest survey card' and complaining about that internet access. Few days later I have received a letter by post (!!!) with explanation from General Manager. I appreciate that, but my first thought was 'Why somebody waist so much money for such answer?". I would be more than happy to receive an e-mail answer. Would save time and money for the hotel. They could put all these "letter bills" to one box and at the end of the year renew one of the rooms. That would make more sence to me... And, anyway, internet situation year later didn't change. Internet doesn't exist there...
Being very honest with everybody, I use this hotel because of nice memories from my school and good special rates, but if I have to pay "regular rate" I would definitely find some nicer place to stay. Mercure Hotel Giewont Zakopane should move forward, not backward... So sorry...
