“Hidden little gem!”

Stayed at Mikolaj for 3 days and had a great time! Location is very convenient. Walking distance from train station and all other attractions. Staff was great!
Included breakfast is good too!
Hotel does not have an elevator, that's the only negative I can think of. The staff helped in moving my luggage - much appreciated!
Would surely recommend to others and return on my next visit.

“Excellant base and pleasant stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2008

Just returned last night from 3 nights to celebrate a friend's major birthday in Krakow and stayed at the Hotel Mikołaj.

I can only compliement the stay as the room was massive (no 21 - 3 of us so a triple), spotless and clean. There was a large walk in shower with a powerful jet to blow away the hangovers and a brand new leather settee and 2 matching chairs to lounge around the coffee table and chill.

I had requested that we did not want room 14 and were glad when we did not get it as it is directly above the staff room.

The breakfast was interesting and varied and certainly catered for most tastes (be warned you must ask for coffee otherwise you'll have a long wait).

The restaurant is a must (you get 10% discount off the food AND drinks) and we had a couple of surprisingly cheap and tasty meals there.

The position of the Hotel was the best feature. It is 5 minutes way from the rowdy square, down a pretty side street. Near to the action but away from the noise!

When we checked out at 12, the receptionist allowed us to pack away our luggage in a secure room and booked us a taxi for 6:45 and this allowed us another 6 hours to continue exploring such an interesting and beautiful city!

Nothing to complain about and we'll be back.....

“Fine Budget Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2008

Stayed at Mikolaj Hotel between the 23rd and 25th February.

Hotel is basic, but very clean and well looked after.
Rooms are large.

No aircon so imagine it gets hot in summer.

But a great budget option.

Continental breakfast is good and quite varied for the size of the place.

Staff are very helpful. My friend, Whisper, became ill on our last day and the staff were very courteous and let him have room after checkout time so he could recouperate.

Great location for old town and Roosters.

“Noisy in room 14”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2007

We were originally booked in at the Classic Hotel, however on arrival we were informed that our room was unavailable due to English tourists damaging the room? We were then told to go to the Mikolaj which was just around the corner. Both Hotels are well positioned for the old town, restaurants and bars etc. However we were in room no.14 which was very noisy as it is very near to the reception and the reception area is not sealed off from the staircase. The room was adequate, very clean and linen/towels changed frequently. Our concern with this hotel is that there is decorative ironwork on all the windows, and we could not see any fire escape which was a little frightening. Would not stay here again as overall the standard was not acceptable.

“A vertical hotel with no elevator”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2007

The Mikolaj is well placed near the Market Square and next to the Music Academy (which used to be communist party HQ). We stayed in Room 32 at the top of the building. That meant dragging our luggage up 4 long flights of stairs. The room was very large with a sitting area and a good size bathroom. The walls were almost too hot to touch and putting on the a/c was so noisy that you couldn't think, let alone sleep. Things didn't cool until well into the night. Our friends stayed one floor lower but had similar problems. Breakfast is in the celler; very nice, but an additional flight of stairs to climb afterwards.
Staff were friendly and helpful but this isn't a place to stay, particularly since there are many other hotels in the street that look better.
Another reviewer was disappointed that this isn't in the Jewish Quarter. We stayed in the (Kasamiertz) Jewish Quarter later in our trip and found it not nearly as interesting as the Old Town. Also, the food choices in the Old Town are much better and less expensive.

Stayed June 2007
