“Location great but watch out...”

This guest house should only be recommended for its location. If you want a place overlooking the maket square then this is the place for you. The two rooms we had (No 1 & 2 I think) both had nice clean bathrooms, a small kitchen and a lovely view but, as in other reviews, the actual bedrooms are in need of attention. It is an old a beautiful building so I appreciate that the fixtures may not be modern, in keeping with the style, but there is no excuse for missing lightbulbs, dirty rugs on the floor, old linen and general lack of maintenance. It's great for budget travellers but I think that the old style charm and spacious rooms do not make up for the run down rooms. Please also ask if there are an weddings on during your stay. Two of our three nights were sleepless due to Dj and bands playing until the early hours of the morning (4am)! To their credit, we have been offered a free night in the guest house should we ever return to Krakow but, with so many other places to visit, this is little consolation. Last note of caution, please confirm the price of the room. The details that we were given over email were incorrect.

“Great location but in need of some much needed TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2010

We were a family of 5 travelling with a 73 year old grandmother and 2 adult children. We were accomodated in apartments 1 and 2. Both apartments were very spacious and very clean. The location is fantastic - right on the square , with great views from the 2 double windows. However our apartments are in sore need of some improvements. It has to be remembered that these apartments are within a very old and charming building. The beautiful windows have been neglected - paint is peeling and the catches are missing. The heavy brass bathroom door handle was broken and kept falling off. One of the power points had come off the wall. The mattress on the queen size bed needs replacing - it was extremely lumpy and the bed linen was almost threadbare. The in room internet worked only once in the 7 days we were there - we reported the problem but to no avail. If you need a hair dryer ask in the office downstairs. There are 83 steps to the rooms - but we coped - even granny managed. This can be a problem if you've got a lot of luggage as there's no lift - however the staircase is beautiful - and think of the exercise you'll get especially after indulging in all that yummy polish food.

“well worth the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

as mentioned before, there are 85 steps. we stayed for seven nights, so 85x30 trips is a lot of steps. That being said, we enjoyed our stay at Dom Polonii. The rooms are decorated with antiques and old paintings, and the apartment (#3) was spacious and airy. There is no air conditioning, so hot nights may be a problem (but our nights were cool). We also stayed in one of the smaller rooms (#1) for one night, and the view from window was outstanding as we could see the square. I believe the two smaller rooms, however, are suitable only for solos or couples. The apartment is another matter We liked it. We're used to upscale lodging, but this was an excellent value for the relative price. Check prices of the Wentzel to see what I mean.

The restaurant staff downstairs was outstanding. We ate breakfast there five mornings, and thought they were super. The hotel manager was also very nice.

“Wonderful place, brilliantly located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

This is a fantastic bargain. The top floor (88 stairs up accordiing to my niece) of a Renaissance palace, now used by the Polish Society has been turned into a hotel. Huge rooms overlooking the Rynek at a bargain price.
Cannot recommend highly enough.

“Dom Polonii Hotel, Rynek Glowny 14, Krakow.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2009

We visited this hotel in February and couldn't believe how lucky we were, not only because its very reasonable (approx. £44 a night!), but also because of its location and charm! The hotel is built on 3 floors and is in the corner of the main square (Rynek Glowny). There are only 3 rooms and they are on the 3rd floor, reached by a lovely old winding staircase. Once we got our breath back, we marvelled at the entrance hall, which housed our bathroom, and which then led into this massive room (approx. 20ft x 20ft) - with a huge art deco bed and furnished in the same style. Off of the bedroom was a little kitchenette with loads of crockery and a fridge.

On the ground floor there is a charming little cafe and several times a week Chopin Concerts are held on the premises!

I have attached a link to the hotel where you will find contact details and more information about the rooms etc - enjoy!
