“well worth the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

as mentioned before, there are 85 steps. we stayed for seven nights, so 85x30 trips is a lot of steps. That being said, we enjoyed our stay at Dom Polonii. The rooms are decorated with antiques and old paintings, and the apartment (#3) was spacious and airy. There is no air conditioning, so hot nights may be a problem (but our nights were cool). We also stayed in one of the smaller rooms (#1) for one night, and the view from window was outstanding as we could see the square. I believe the two smaller rooms, however, are suitable only for solos or couples. The apartment is another matter We liked it. We're used to upscale lodging, but this was an excellent value for the relative price. Check prices of the Wentzel to see what I mean.

The restaurant staff downstairs was outstanding. We ate breakfast there five mornings, and thought they were super. The hotel manager was also very nice.

“Wonderful place, brilliantly located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

This is a fantastic bargain. The top floor (88 stairs up accordiing to my niece) of a Renaissance palace, now used by the Polish Society has been turned into a hotel. Huge rooms overlooking the Rynek at a bargain price.
Cannot recommend highly enough.

“Dom Polonii Hotel, Rynek Glowny 14, Krakow.”

We visited this hotel in February and couldn't believe how lucky we were, not only because its very reasonable (approx. £44 a night!), but also because of its location and charm! The hotel is built on 3 floors and is in the corner of the main square (Rynek Glowny). There are only 3 rooms and they are on the 3rd floor, reached by a lovely old winding staircase. Once we got our breath back, we marvelled at the entrance hall, which housed our bathroom, and which then led into this massive room (approx. 20ft x 20ft) - with a huge art deco bed and furnished in the same style. Off of the bedroom was a little kitchenette with loads of crockery and a fridge.

On the ground floor there is a charming little cafe and several times a week Chopin Concerts are held on the premises!

I have attached a link to the hotel where you will find contact details and more information about the rooms etc - enjoy!

“Polish Gem!”

We stayed here In October 2006 for 5 nights. We were in a very large appartment at the back of the building, which was very quiet with no noise from the busy square outside.

There are 85 steps up a magnificent sweeping staircase to the rooms on the top floor. Our appartment had a huge bedroom, bathroom with bath & shower, separate toilet, kitchen, and enourmous lounge/
diner. The two main rooms have fantastic beams and traditional furniture & decor, with Digital TV & minibar. The kitchen had a kettle, fridge, hob & oven, & microwave. In a world of corporate hotels it was nice to have a taste of the country we were in. You couldn't be closer to the heart of Kracow, with lots happening in the
square day & night. Good restaurants, shops & when we were there on the Saturday there was a local crafts market. The tourist information
office sold us very cheap tickets to the salt mines & the concentration camps & gave us good maps.

I booked direct by e-mail, no deposit was required and we paid in full when we left. I was a bit concerned after booking that I did have a reservation, but I asked for a confirmation e-mail and everything was fine. Although the staff don't speak much English the owner is fluent and v.helpfull. We had booked 4 nights, then went to Warsaw, when we returned all the hotels were fully booked but The Dom Polonii welcomed us back for one night. There was a concert on downstairs and we could hear it only through open windows & it was all over when we returned from our evening out. I highly recommend this hotel.

“Highly Recommend this Gem!”

Warm, high recommendations for this gem, in the very center of the Old City of Krakow! The "Dom Polonii" is a Cultural Center, where the top floor holds three rooms (more like suites or studio apartments!) available for tourist rental. The location is perfect, the rooms are beautiful, the breakfast is delicious, but most important of all, the director of the Dom Polonii is a charming and very helpful Polish gentleman who speaks English and is always willing to help! It's a three-flight walk-up, but worth the extra effort. We were really pleased with our stay, and will certainly return here again.
