“Very happy at Hotel Karmel”

We spent three nights at Hotel Karmel and were very happy we made this choice. The hotel is in a recently renovated and emerging district for restaurants and bars, and in the heart of the Jewish sites. It is quick and easy to get by foot and tram to Krakow Main Square (maybe 15 minutes). The hotel is on a quiet street and we were bothered very little by any nightlife in the area. All the staff spoke English fairly well and were extremely professional and helpful. The room was small, as other reviewers mentioned, but comfortable and clean and nicely appointed. It was fine for two people (I was traveling with my daughter). There are several flights of stairs to carry bags up and we were on the top floor (3 flights). One staff member did volunteer to help us when we were leaving. The breakfasts were the best on our trip. They had a wide assortment of food, plus would make omelets and scrambled eggs to order. They will also make espresso drinks, which, being from Seattle, I appreciated quite a bit! We had an early flight the day we checked-out and the staff packed a breakfast bag for us to take with us, which was a welcome surprise. We also had a wonderful dinner at the Italian restaurant downstairs that was very reasonably priced (as were all the restaurants in Krakow). We would stay here again and recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good value a little out of the tourist stream, but still convenient and with lots of nice character.

  • Liked — Staff, comfortable room, espresso
  • Disliked — Stairs

“Nice Friendly Hotel”

Just spent 4 days at the Karmel in Krakow, this is a very reasonably priced hotel in the Jewish quarter. It was spotless and the staff were very friendly, although there was no one to help us carry our bags up the four flights of stairs to our rooms. The rooms were tiny although the bathrooms were new and spacious. I would probably stay in the old town if I went to Krakow again, it's only about 20 minutes walk but we spent most of our time there. The breakfasts were excellent and we had lunch on the day we arrived in the Italian restaurant underneath which was also excellent.

“Very Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2007

Stayed in the comfort suite and really liked it! Bathroom was great, A/C worked to a charm, room was large but cute. Kind of wished we had stayed in the Old Town area, but it was no problem at all getting up there...maybe a 20 minute walk to the square with the Castle half that. The morning breakfast was very good...about every other day had the option of ordering made to order eggs/omelettes, etc. included. We live in Italy, so never went to it, but a highly rated Italian restaurant was on the ground floor.

  • Liked — Everything was great...breakfast, service, the room.
  • Disliked — Ended up preferring the Old Town area

“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2006

Very nice room. Right in the middle of the Jewish section of town, if you can tolerate being in the midlle of a Jewish tourism industry without any Jewish persons anywhere in sight (and you can well imagine why).Try to stay away from room #1 as it adjoins the little reception area which can get mildly noisy. Note also that there is a steep and quite long staircase from the street to the reception area (the hotel begins on the second floor) and NONE of the hotel staff will bring up your suitcase which my wife and I were unable to do. Fortunately the waiter of the excellent restaurant on the first floor was happy to oblige. I gave him a nice tip.

  • Liked — Large, clean, very nice room.
  • Disliked — The staff will not bring our suitcase up a very long and steep staircase.

“Hotel Karmel Great Hotel,”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2006

Hotel Karmel is in the Jewish Quarter about 5 minutes walk from Wavel Castle and 15 Minutes from the Old Town square. The hotel is small and friendly and all the staff could not have been more helpful. The meal we had in the restaurant was the best of the trip. Krakow feels perfectly safe to walk around at all times. The jewish quarter has numerous galleries and art houses as well as some excellent bars. I would certainbly return to the Hotel Kamel although if money was no object I may consider something a bit more central although I would then be concerned about the street noise as the Old Town is lively. Overall a fabulous trip!
