“Excellent location & value”

The DJ Hostel is in an excellent location less than 2 mins walk from the (rear entrance of the) Central Railway Station and main bus terminal and approximately 10 mins walk from the Old Town. There are bars, a bakery and grocery shops all within a minutes walk of the hostel and there is a new shopping centre right next to the train station.

We had booked a double room with ensuite facilities and as the hostel was not busy, we were pleasantly surprised to be given 2 adjoining rooms (for our sole use), one with a double bed and 2 bunks, and the other with 2 bunks, a toilet, washbasin and shower. The rooms were clean and spacious and had a few hanging hooks and plenty of drawer-space for our needs. We were given our own keys although the main desk is manned 24/7.

There is a common room where you can eat breakfast (tea, coffee, cereal and bread are provided) including a fridge for guests use. There are also books, magazines, a tv and a computer terminal with free 24 hour internet access available.

There is a lot of information available on what to see and do in Krakow including lists of restaurants, pubs etc which have been personally annotated to draw your attention to any special features! We visited pubs and eateries off the list and were delighted to find they were exactly as described!

The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly and our special thanks go to Monika for her personal help with our requests! We thought this hostel was very good value for money and we would have no hesitation in recommending it or in staying here again.

“close to the rail station...”

My wife and I stayed at DJ Hostel in Krakow for three nights as part of a 60 day trip through Europe, on a budget.

Having not stayed at hostels often, we were wondering what to expect but we needn't have worried.

Firstly, the staff are extremely friendly and were an absolute pleasure to deal with, both prior to traveling via emails and more importantly once we had arrived. We chatted for ages about the things to see in Krakow, places to go, restaurants to eat in, etc. and we were given many brochures to peruse.

The room itself, (we chose a double room with ensuite) was next to the reception which was a slight worry but again, no cause for concern as the staff were extremely quiet, as were the guests, and we had good sleeps for all three nights. The room was basic, but functional, with a double bed as well as a double bunk, so plenty of room.

The Hostel is also about two minutes walk from the rail station and the free internet was a great bonus.

Overall, DJ hostel was a good place to stay as it is so close to the rail station and the staff were so friendly.

PS, for authentic Polish food, i suggest a restaurant called Polskie Smarkie, in the old town

  • Liked — clean, close to rail station and staff were very friendly and helpful

“Staying in the DJ Hostel (Krakow, Poland)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2006

A group of us stayed at the DJ Hotel the last week in June. We found the Hostel to be well located and spacious enough for all 13 of us. Unfortunately they were lfting the tram lines up outside the building and the sound of jackhammers at 7 am were too much for half our group and they moved elsewhere. For those of us who stayed, we did not regret it. Joanna the manager was more than accommodating to us with all requests for changing rooms etc. Arriving back late with a few drinks on board didn't even dampen her spirits!!

I would highly recommend this hostel for anyone visiting Krakow - be it a backpacker or just your average tourist. I must say finally that the only disadvantages to staying here was there was no air-con or even fans in the hostel to use/rent, and we found this disappointing as we had extremely warm and sunny days and humid close weather at night time. Also there were a lack of keys to the room (2 sets between 6 people) which caused problems at 4 in the morning when you had to get up to let the others in!!!

If you can live with the lack of air-con and keys, then I'd reecommend this hostel for anyone. The service provided from the staff will more than recompense for this inconvenience, and I found their attitude to customer service higher than anywhere else we received in Krakow (pubs, clubs, restaurants)!!

“Great Hostel for couples”

This is a small private hostel situated very close to the main bus and railway station and only 5/10 mins walk into the old town. The rooms are very clean and big. As it is small it is very quiet so good for couple and older travellers, probably not so great if you are a 18yr old student hope to meet lots of people! The owners are extremely friendly and helpful and will go out of theuir way to supply you with information on what to do/eat and nightlife etc...

My boyfriend and I stayed at DJ hostel whilst visiting Krakow in febuary. It is definately the best hostel we have stayed in , despite it being -5 outside , the hostel is cosy and warm, a real home from home with large comfy rooms .The manager Joanna is lovely and really goes out of her way to make sure you have a good stay with lots of local information and help such as booking taxis etc.I have nothing but good things to say about this hostel and we definately recommend it to anyone considering a trip to this beautiful city.
