We travelled to Krakow as a group of friends to celebrate a 40th birthday and stayed in the Golden Lion apartments. The apartments are located a short walk from the main square with an excellent choice of bars and restaurants.

The rooms were basic enough but clean with a good shower which, for the price, was as much as we could expect. We had an internal view from our room which was of a building site but considering the apartments were located on a busy street it was probably a good thing.

A kitchen / dining room off reception had a basic breakfast if required but we needed a little bit more substantial so ventured to some of the many restaurant within a couple minutes walk.

There wasn't a safe in the room but it was possible to have your valuables locked away at reception which was always manned by friendly members of staff. The big dog around reception was an additional comfort and he was a very placid, friendly animal but I wouldn't fancy coming face to face to him if I was breaking in !!!

So, excellent for the price but perhaps not somewhere for a romantic stay. Perfect for groups who want to explore Krakow and the surrounding areas but don't expect and additional luxuries.

Very nice location close to the main square but some drawbacks to consider for this ease of access of the main touristic sites.

1) very noisy at night, especially if it is a weekend as the party goers are reveling below the windows till 3 or 4 am and it is hard to sleep with the windows closed if it is hot weather - the small room gets very stuffy and with windows open, it is like being on the street - take ear plugs along if you decided still that this is worth a try.

2) the whole building stinks as it is old - the carpets stink and so do the walls - very old musty smell - and I mean really stink...the smell is suffused deep in them...

3) very basic rooms - two old looking colored towels and very basic sheet on the bed

4) no security safe in the room - so carry your valuables with you everyday

5) a pit bull to greet you in the reception room - it is a friendly pit bull but for those who are sensitive to dogs, such as me, that a pit bull greeted my arrival by smelling me up and down the pants as well as all my luggage was no fun at all

6) the room decor is - well - nothing. In the corridors there are pompous looking pictures of some gentleman wearing what seem to be regal-type clothes and shaking hands with various recent dignitaries such as the Pope John Paul but no idea who that man is and why he should decorate that place - probably the owner but no hotel I have been to has the entire decor built around one man's pictures...

So - all in all, a good location close to the main square but very poor quality of accommodation. The staff are friendly and there is not much they can do to improve the offering with such terrible premises.

I would certainly not stay here again.

Yes it's a bit noisy, but, keeping the window shut cuts it out a lot!
They fitted us in at very short notice on a Friday night due to a flight delay
causing us to miss a rail connection, booked for us by another Hotel so
we were a bit 'blind'going in.

All in all friendly and helpful. Hot water a bit err... erratic!
But ideal for one night as we were shattered.
Swezca the road it's on is home to A LOT of late night bars, so
please don't expect quiet and secluded, however, they were helpful
and plesant to deal with.

A friend and I saw Rick Steves’ recommendation for this property and gave it a shot. We stayed in Apartment 7. While there was room for five, the two of us enjoyed each having our own sleeping rooms, living area (with HUGE closets), and a bath complete with a washer/dryer. The staff speaks English very well, is helpful with such things as arranging a taxi to the rail station, and even had breakfast ready for us early on the day of our departure. The rail station is an easy walk but in the snow that would not have been fun. Our room was on the second floor and had street noise but we knew that going in. I brought earplugs and slept soundly each night. The shared kitchen just outside our apartment was perfect for making tea and had a bottle opener and glassware we enjoyed having at our disposal. Being less than two blocks from Market Square was perfect for being out and about all day and not being far from our room. We took several day trips and found Krakow to be very convenient. Tyson and the entire staff will greet you warmly. The computer access on our floor was convenient and reliable.
