“Kracking hotel in the heart of Krakow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The Wielopole is within walking distance of most of the sights of central Krakow. The staff are fabulous, one guy at reception wouldn't have been out of place in a five star hotel in London.

The rooms are not huge, but they are clean, and the paintwork still smells fresh. Bed great, actually the best I've slept in. Bathroom is a bathroom - I would have given this hotel a higher rating for an extra toilet roll. Hasn't rationing finished in Poland?

Breakfast is included in the price, and of higher than average quality. Overall this hotel is not only a bargain, but a quality bargain. Go there. But take your own toilet rolls.

Dear Guest,

We are very pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay in our hotel. On behalf of all hotel employees, I wish to thank you for your very positive feedback. At the same time I want to apologize for the small amounts of toilet rools. It is not rationing but our inadvertence and we will try to avoid that in the future. However we encourage all our guests to register any inconvenience with our 24hour reception service so that we can address matters of inconvenience immediately.
We hope that you will choose our hotel again next time you go to Krakow.

With kind regards,
Eliza Podleśna

“Great location, fab staff and excellent standard!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Myself and my Mum stayed at the Wielopole for a two night city break in Krakow from 7-9th February and we loved it.

I emailed the hotel a week or so in advance to arrange for a taxi to pick us up from the airport and to enquire about the price of the Auschwitz excursion. The email was replied to promptly and everything was taken care of. Our flight was delayed for an hour but the taxi driver was ready waiting for us, was polite and friendly and gave us lots of information about Krakow. I’d definitely recommend booking a taxi through the hotel rather than picking one up outside the airport, as they’re not only cheaper, but more reliable. We paid 80PLN and the transfer is around 20mins.

The location is fantastic. It’s a five minute walk to the Old Square, five minutes to the Jewish Quarter/ Wawel Castle and five minutes to the Galleria Krakowska the local huge shopping centre, definitely well worth a look!

Check-in was quick and easy and although a double room had been prepared when we asked for a twin this was sorted within ten minutes and gave us the opportunity to enjoy the free gingerbreads and tea and coffee.

The room was exactly how it looked on the internet, plenty of space and with all the amenities you need, including shower gels and shampoo and tea/coffee facilities. The heated rail in the bathroom was fantastic for warming up clothing before you go out into freezing Krakow! Everything was immaculately clean and well maintained and I can honestly say the bed was one of the comfiest I have ever slept in!

I have to say, the only slight weakness of the hotel is the breakfast. I’ve stayed in many eastern European cities so know what to expect, but I was a little disappointed here. There are cereals, bread, toast, yoghurt, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, pastries, salads and ham and cheese. Now there’s nothing wrong with the choice but the problem was that once it ran out it wasn’t replaced all that quickly, especially the warm food which also was often cold. In the summer, it wouldn’t have bothered me having a cold breakfast but when it’s -12 outside warm food is preferred. Maybe also think of including porridge? We ate in the hotel the first evening and the food was really good. Two starters, two main meals, two wines, a vodka and service charge came to £18.

Excursions. Book them through the hotel, again it generally works out cheaper. We went to Auschwitz. The tours leave at either 10.10am or 10.40 am and you’re back at the hotel at around 4.30pm. Take some food and drink with you as there aren’t really any opportunities to buy anything. Also if you’re going in the next couple of weeks, take the warmest clothes and shoes you have. I cannot describe how cold we were even though we were each wearing five layers plus a coat!

To eat out try Pod Baranem on świętej Gertrudy. Turn left out of the hotel, left again at the main road and then about a 300m walk and it’s on the left. Amazing food!

Overall the Wielopole was fantastic with friendly staff, efficient service and a great location. Thank you to everyone at reception for all your help! I wouldn’t consider any other hotel if I was to stay in Krakow again!

Room Tip: I honestly don't think you would have a problem with any of the rooms but those on the front hav...

Dear Mayan,

Great opinion! Thank you very much. We are very glad that you have found our staff, amenities and the rooms so wonderful. For us it is very enjoyable that our efforts have been noticed and appreciated.
Thank you for your comments about restaurant – we will try to solve that problem. For the excursions we recommend our guests to take the lunchbox with them – the cost is small and you do not have to worry about shopping in the grocery. Also the weather is getting better and right now the temperature is 0 to + 5 degrees. Of course during the winter time it is always important to have some warm clothes.

Once again I would like to express my gratitude for your review and we hope that you will come back to us in the near future.

Wishes,
Eliza Podleśna

Went as a group of 12 and everyoneagreed...a great value hotel inanexcellent location. Rooms are spacious and well appointed and spotlessly clean. Staff are helpful and attentive but unobtruusive. Breakfast is adequate and restaurant food is as good as any...the 42cm pizzas at 4-5 pound will feed 2 and are a steal. Located a 8-10 min stroll from the main square, it couldnt be better. Highly reccommended!

“Fabulous stay”

Can not fault this hotel. My boyfriend and I had a very pleasant stay.

Location - Very central and just a short walk away from the Main Market Square, Castle, Jewish quarter. Krakow is a very small city and we walked everywhere.

Staff - Very friendly and always happy to help, especially Paulina.

Rooms - Spotless, recently refurbished, lovely bathroom and great shower.

Breakfast - Nice selection of salads, bread, ham, cheese, sausage, scrambled egg, pancakes, cereal.

Excursions - Auschwitz is a must see, and you can book this through the hotel. We also went to Zakopane for a day trip which is a beautiful ski resort up in the Tatra mountains. We did not book an excursion for this as it worked out we would save a lot of money by finding our own way there. Paulina helped us plan our trip.

Restaurants - We went to Pod Baranem as it was voted #1 on Trip Advisor. Beautiful food, would highly recommend.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. I do not think we could have found a better hotel for such a great price. Perfect.

“Great for a City Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

My wife & I stayed at the Wielopole between 16 & 20 January and would endorse the many positive comments left previously. The room was of a more that acceptable size (given that we were rarely in it) and spotlessly clean. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was varied with the items regularly topped up. We didn't take an evening meal in the hotel, put off a little by a dining area which, in our opinion, lacked character. Given all the positives we experienced however I would expect an evening meal if taken to be first class. There was some upgrading work going on while we were there but this in no way impacted negatively on our stay. While it is true that the stairwell (fire exit) contained some evidence of this the route was never remotely blocked. When we did encounter workers in this area they were always courteous and made room for you. The hotel's location is first class; close to the main square and old time but also no distance away from the Castle and the Jewish Quarter. If we do return to Krakow we would not hesitate to use the Wielopole again.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for taking the time to share your positive opinion on Tripadvisor. I really appreciate your words, especially about the unobstructed staircase. Unfortunately disturbing work is inevitable if the hotel wants to raise the standard and quality service for its guests. We do understand that during the last 4 months it could have been burdensome for the guests but finally we have finished the renovation in all our rooms and corridors. On this occassion we want to apologize everyone who had to bear it.

See you soon!
