Myself and my Mum stayed at the Wielopole for a two night city break in Krakow from 7-9th February and we loved it.
I emailed the hotel a week or so in advance to arrange for a taxi to pick us up from the airport and to enquire about the price of the Auschwitz excursion. The email was replied to promptly and everything was taken care of. Our flight was delayed for an hour but the taxi driver was ready waiting for us, was polite and friendly and gave us lots of information about Krakow. I’d definitely recommend booking a taxi through the hotel rather than picking one up outside the airport, as they’re not only cheaper, but more reliable. We paid 80PLN and the transfer is around 20mins.
The location is fantastic. It’s a five minute walk to the Old Square, five minutes to the Jewish Quarter/ Wawel Castle and five minutes to the Galleria Krakowska the local huge shopping centre, definitely well worth a look!
Check-in was quick and easy and although a double room had been prepared when we asked for a twin this was sorted within ten minutes and gave us the opportunity to enjoy the free gingerbreads and tea and coffee.
The room was exactly how it looked on the internet, plenty of space and with all the amenities you need, including shower gels and shampoo and tea/coffee facilities. The heated rail in the bathroom was fantastic for warming up clothing before you go out into freezing Krakow! Everything was immaculately clean and well maintained and I can honestly say the bed was one of the comfiest I have ever slept in!
I have to say, the only slight weakness of the hotel is the breakfast. I’ve stayed in many eastern European cities so know what to expect, but I was a little disappointed here. There are cereals, bread, toast, yoghurt, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, pastries, salads and ham and cheese. Now there’s nothing wrong with the choice but the problem was that once it ran out it wasn’t replaced all that quickly, especially the warm food which also was often cold. In the summer, it wouldn’t have bothered me having a cold breakfast but when it’s -12 outside warm food is preferred. Maybe also think of including porridge? We ate in the hotel the first evening and the food was really good. Two starters, two main meals, two wines, a vodka and service charge came to £18.
Excursions. Book them through the hotel, again it generally works out cheaper. We went to Auschwitz. The tours leave at either 10.10am or 10.40 am and you’re back at the hotel at around 4.30pm. Take some food and drink with you as there aren’t really any opportunities to buy anything. Also if you’re going in the next couple of weeks, take the warmest clothes and shoes you have. I cannot describe how cold we were even though we were each wearing five layers plus a coat!
To eat out try Pod Baranem on świętej Gertrudy. Turn left out of the hotel, left again at the main road and then about a 300m walk and it’s on the left. Amazing food!
Overall the Wielopole was fantastic with friendly staff, efficient service and a great location. Thank you to everyone at reception for all your help! I wouldn’t consider any other hotel if I was to stay in Krakow again!

Dear Mayan,
Great opinion! Thank you very much. We are very glad that you have found our staff, amenities and the rooms so wonderful. For us it is very enjoyable that our efforts have been noticed and appreciated.
Thank you for your comments about restaurant – we will try to solve that problem. For the excursions we recommend our guests to take the lunchbox with them – the cost is small and you do not have to worry about shopping in the grocery. Also the weather is getting better and right now the temperature is 0 to + 5 degrees. Of course during the winter time it is always important to have some warm clothes.
Once again I would like to express my gratitude for your review and we hope that you will come back to us in the near future.
Wishes,
Eliza Podleśna
