“Cheap...but not particularly cheerful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2008

Think carefully about this place...Single rooms were very small, without tea or coffee and with a view out over either noisy industrial works or a tram terminus! Thank goodness I packed my ear plugs!

- Shower leaked and flooded bathroom floor each time it was used. No A/C which was a problem during 30 degree heat.

- Breakfast was bread (often stale), sweaty cheese, reformed ham, and salad. No fruit.

While staff were always very helpful and friendly, hotel owner has been known to shout at hotel guests.

(Stayed at Hotel Rokk for a week in July 2008).

  • Liked — cheap
  • Disliked — Too far from city centre and not of a high enough quality to justify the commute into Krakow centre each day

“20Zsl Taxi fare to town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2007

The hotel is modern, very clean and generally good value.
The rooms we had were good sized twins with most things we wanted and considered reasonable value. No Tea/Coffee facilities in the room, although if you provide the wherewithall, they have a kettle etc close by. (It is a 2 star after all).
The breakfast is typical continental + hot dogs and we thought pretty good - except for the weird ricey thing (god knows what that was). The evening meals were brilliant. Between the 4 of us we tried almost everything and couldn't fault the main meals at all. The bar closes 10ish, but theres a fridge in the room and beer is cheap enough. The most we paid was about £1.50 in a good quality bar.
The location is a problem. The description on the Hotels.com site suggest its pretty close to town. To walk you would need SatNav, strong shoes and a stout constitution.
Taxis are 20Zsl (£4) to town. An additional expense but essential
Watch out for the "Local Tax". Not included in the "including all taxes" deal we were given. Krakow itself - BRILLIANT.

  • Liked — The Evening Menu. Excellent.
  • Disliked — Taxi to and from ANYWHERE.

This hotel was horrible to get to we ahd to fork out on taxis beacue the tram system was so hard to work out. We had water off for a whole day and almost anight due to repairs. The great views you get are of a tram site and an industrial site. You get wonderful sounds of trams and lorries all night apart from Sundays. the only great thing was the staff who tried there hardest and speak some english. The rooms were small and shower was tiny. Breakfast was hardly anything a small buffet with not a lot of variety.

  • Liked — the staff were friendly and helpful
  • Disliked — the tax they added after charging u for the hotel room

“Great Hotel but a little remote”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2007

This is a great hotel but just a little too far from the city centre. It's about nine tram stops to the city and even though the trams run at about 10 minute intervals it's not that convenient if you need to slip back to the hotel quickly. It is actually located in an industrial estate opposite the tram sheds. There are no shops or restaurants convenient. Apart from that everyting else was excellent and the city of Krackow is well worth a visit.

By the way, if you are visiting, watch out for Catholic Church Holidays. We were there on 7 June which was the Feast of Corpus Christi. Most shops were closed and the trams etc. operated a Saturday/Sunday service which meant you had to wait a lot longer for the tram to arrive.
