“Set in the suburbs, friendly and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2010

We booked on one of the booking sites (linked from here) and paid 166 pounds for four nights stay, breakfast included. Though this place is a few stops away on the train from the centre of Gdansk, it's ideally situated if you want to visit the surrounding area as well; from Oliwa (where Willa Albatros is located), we took a leisurely walk to Sopot and the train to Hel, and we also enjoyed seeing an organ concert at the Oliwa cathedral. Best of all, though, was the really helpful staff. The gentlemen we spoke with (sorry, we never got his name) was a great source of advice and local knowledge, and he even had a little stash of DVD's behind the counter that he was willing to lend us when we were spending a night in, and umbrellas on hand to lend in case it rained. There was a table on the deck outside our room where we would have a beer in the evening, and always coffee/tea/biscuits available if we needed a pick me up. It was the time we felt the most at home while on holiday.

“The value was worth more than I paid!”

After finally checking my map correctly, my Girlfriend and I found this hotel without issue.
I wasn't sure what to expect from a non chain Polish Hotel (my first).
The Hotel is based within a well to do residential area (Large houses, large dogs), tucked a few hundred metres from the Main Bus/Tram travel routes and has close access to beaches.
Parking is on the main street alongside the hotel, but we didn't drive.
It appears as a wrought iron gated, huge property - A hybrid of a house and mansion. The cleanliness was exceptional. From the outside entrance to the interior.
We arrived at the reception, which was small via the front door (easily located).
A well spoken bilingual man welcomed us - took our details over ten minutes and confirmed the booking. He advised that we can keep hold of the hey if we leave the building, and breakfast or other meals could be pre-ordered to our rooms if we wished.
Very few rules except for noise levels in the premises.
We went out in the evening and purchased wine - the receptionist even gave us a corkscrew to save our evening.

The bedroom we took was two single beds (we're not married :D). The cleanliness was exceptional. We has wireless broadband access - 18 inch television with 50 channels, including some English and Foreign.
The bathroom was an attractive well tiled outfit, again - exceptionally clean and dust free.
Two towels on each bed and crockery in a cupboard with lots of storage space.
Mineral water cooler down the stairwell with hot water and free coffees/teas etc.

We stayed only one night and left rather early for tourism, but for a short single experience - it was fantastic and we'll head there again if we re-visit Tricity.

Sadly, we have no photos (my fault) but the online photos are accurate to what it is.

Thanks to Willa Albatros for a good welcome.

“Felt like home!”

The care the staff takes at the Willa is amazing. Advise and help are easy to come by and the owner, sitting at his desk, always greets you with a smile. On New Years my girlfriend and I shared champagne and lit fireworks with him together in the street out front, I have never felt so welcome! Each room at the Willa is unique and comfortable with its own style and class. Complimentary coffee, tea, and water are close by so your never thirsty. The Willa is close to the Oliwa train station and from there downtown Gdansk is just short train ride away. Sopot is equally easy to get to. Willa Albatros is a great stay, i heartily recommend it.

“A lovely welcome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2009

We only stayed one night but Bartosz at Reception made us very welcome. We liked the small touches like apples at reception, fluffy bathrobes & complimentary soft drinks(albeit a limited selection). The breakfast was good and the staff very friendly. It is a short walk (10 mins) to the Oliwa PKP & 20 minutes into town but frequent trains & only 6.4zl return. Also well sited for Oliwa Cathedral (20 minute walk) and the delightful park around the cathedral. The room was good and best bed we slept on in Poland. Good value for money - and really nice to be made so welcome!

“Good service, good value.”

We were looking for an affordable stay in Gdansk, and Villa Albatros fit the bill. The hotel is a short walk from the Gdansk-Oliwa train station. We found the staff friendly and helpful. We paid 170 PLN per night for a Friday-Saturday stay.

My fiancee and I were surprised to find three small beds in a room that we expected one in. We decided not to trouble the managment, and just rearranged two together.

The bathroom in our room was very narrow and odd to move around in. Right outside of our room their was a water cooler that dispensed hot water and a wide selection of teas and coffee. The room was also well furnished and the television received many channels, although everything but CNN was in Polish. Free Wireless internet was also available, but required a password from the hotel staff.

Breakfast is included in the price of the room, depending on where you book, but our reservation did not include it. We decided to pay the 12 PLN, and found the breakfast to be tasty and a good value. I'm a bit partial to Polish style breakfasts myself. This include a variety of bread, meats, cheeses, salads, and juice and tea. Definitely recommended.

The hotel isn't especially close to attractions in Gdansk, but the SKM train at the nearby stations allows easy and affordable access to the tri-city area.

  • Liked — Good service, good breakfast.
  • Disliked — Awkward room with three beds. Location could be better.
