Our family of 6 has stayed in apartments all over Europe and had wonderful experiences with them. Not this time. We stayed 5 nights in the Old Town B51 Exclusive.

Their driver that picked us up from the train station was rude, unfriendly, and unhelpful. When we arrived at the apartment, half the lights didn't work, the TV didn't work, and a door handle were falling off the door. He said he would send someone out the next day. (great plan) We were told their office was opened 24 hours a day if we needed them. The problem, the office is located 20-25 minutes walk to the other side of the river, and there was no phone in the apartment (no alarm clock either) For those of us from the US this is a problem as our cell phones generally don't work in Europe. By the way, I ended up fixing the lights in the apartment, the TV never worked, but they did fix the door handle.

On our fourth night we had the joy of no hot water. There was a note (the fact there was a note tells me this happens often) stating if no hot water contact the office. See above, the office is a hike and no phone . . . we ended up going to a pay phone. The office was closed. We called the emergency number. We reached a man that was totally overwhelmed with other phone calls in the background. He said they would try to get to us the next day, and then hung up on us. Wow, great service! I ended up resetting the water heater -- good thing I figured it out because they never came to fix it!

Bottom line, if you are still considering staying at Old Town apartments you need to be aware of the following . . . Amenities they claim to include, come with a cost. Bring your own TP, or figure out how to make 2 rolls last for 5 days with 6 people. If you go in the summer, bring your own fan because they will charge you handsomely for use of one, and there is no A/C. Although they claim to supply internet service, our apartment did not have it. If we wanted to spend our vacation time setting up a complicated wireless system and then pay a daily charge we could have it.

There is a security deposit that you must pay that was never mentioned when making the reservation. By the way, when we asked about an alarm clock, we were told they couldn't put one in the apartment because it would be stolen. I would think the $300.00 security deposit would cover that . . . my advice, anything else would be better than Old Town Apartments.
