“very unhappy, booked for the weekend and hotel didn't open all weekend had to get new accommodation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2010

I am very unhappy with this hotel. I booked two nights over a month before my trip. All booking was ok. Arrived on Saturday 25th of Sept at 2pm hotel was closed, tried at 3pm, then again 4pm, called all possible numbers no answer. Never received any email saying that there were any problems with my booking or hotel being closed for this weekend. I came back again at 6pm and hang around for another couple of hours, hotel was still closed. Had to quickly find new accommodation and wasted all day. This made my trip really awful.
I'm very disappointed with the service. And would put everyone off thinking about even booking a single night in this hotel. You will only loose your money. Czechs had showed themselves in great light again!!!!

“The best weekend EVER!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2009

I came in September for my 10th wedding anniversary and stayed at the Golden Tree along with a group of friends. We took up 3 pensions in total, and I have got to say it was soley the best weekend we have had EVER!
The main pension was where we ate breakfast and saw to the payment, and the lady who came every morning with fresh breakast, couldnt of been more helpful. There was fresh breads, rolls, meats, cheeses, butter, coffee, juice etc and what looked and tasted like homemade jam.... delicous! All of which were topped up without question.
The rooms where spacious, and although some of our friends said they had no hot water for the shower on one occasion, I personally never had this problem.
The place is on Novy Svet and has a lovely feel to it, all oldy worldy and quaint. Very picturesque, and very well kept. Fantastically clean, and beautifully stripped back to expose the wooden beams.
Its cheap, cheerful and full of the charm you expect from Prague.
If your looking for hightech internet this, or plush modern that.. then you will be dissapionted, but if your looking for the charms of Prague, then this is the place.
It might not be a 5 star all singing all dancing hotel, but then you can get that anywhere. Personally I prefer the feel of places like this, and the personal touch of the friendly face every morning, greeting us with a cheerful smile and the freshest of ingredients.
It took away the headache from the night before I can tell you.
It made our 10th anniversary all the more enjoyable... Good food, good beer, fantastic company, and to top it off a wondeful place to stay!

All in all, I would recomend this place to anyone wanting somewhere on a bit of a budget, or just simply to get the proper feel of Prague. I have stayed here before and will DEFINATLY stay here a third time.

“Avoid Goldentree at all costs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2009

I booked a stay with golden tree apartments in Prague over the New Year through prague30.com.
On arrival the woman who runs goldentree infomed us that we could not stay there and without giving an explanation as to why she sent us in a taxi to an alternative accomodation which she said was 'around the corner'. It turned out to be miles out of the city (Prague 6), in an attic room of someones guest house. Not what we had expected.
The lady who runs goldentree is extremely rude and unhelpful. We were forced to seek out our own accomodation which inevitably was much more expensive as it was New years weekend in Prague.

I would advise you not to stay at goldentree as it is obviously badly run by a lady who should not be allowed to work in the service industry. Avoid at all costs to save being stranded in Prague.

Dear Guest,

I am very sorry you disliked your accommodation so much. I am sorry to note that if you read our website more carefully you might be less frustrated. It clearly says: " we also accommodate guests in apartments and rooms nearby". In line with this information, you were accommodated in the Hartl Pension which is half-mile far from the main reception at the Guesthouse Golden Tree. it was not miles away. But still we are sorry you did not like your accommodation. Manager

“Bed bugs- stay away”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2008

Well, this guest house is in a good location and the room was spacious. Here endeth the praise for the guest house 'At Golden Tree' . We never made it to breakfast so I cannot comment on that.

It is very difficult to get accomodation in Prague for a decent price, and this place is affordable and seemed good, and not too far from the centre but in a quiet area and also close to the Castle and Old Town. However, unless you are on the very, very tightest of budgets, do yourselves a favour and do not stay here. My boyfriend and I were on an interrailing holiday for 21 days, we stayed here for 3 unfortunate nights, the place ruined Prague for me because I was bitten by bedbugs. We had brought a sleepingbag liner/ sleeping sack with us because of other travellers' tales about HOSTELS, you would think a guest house would not have these problems. However even after the first night i could feel numerous bites, on my back, stomach and hips, there were more after the second night and even more on the third. They stayed around for another week and were incredibly itchy and looked awful. I am susceptible to insect bites more than others, my bf had far fewer bites (just 2!) but still I feel this is unacceptable. I at first thought they were mosquito or midge bites but it became apparent every morning that it was the bed. And this is USING a cotton sleeping sack remember. Goodness knows what it would have been like without. The bed itself, to add insult to injury, was uncomfortable, it was made of foam and it was 2 singles pushed together instead of a double. Further criticism is that the room was very gloomy, with small windows, the bathroom was very strange- one's head was almost on the ceiling when having a shower because the bath was raised up and the ceiling low- all right except the 'ceiling' was bare wooden rafters with loose wiring hanging down. It looked like a death trap, but we survived...this was an aesthetic criticism more than anything.

I did think of complaining on leaving and refusing to pay or asking for a discount, but the landlady did not seem to speak very much English at all, if any, and I realised that i could not prove that the bites were from bed bugs in their guest house. So we left, glad to be leaving there if sad to leave the beautiful city. I am aware that you do not spend too much time in your room during a city break but here, we did not want to spend ANY time even at night! Stay away, pay a little bit more and stay somewhere clean, safe and pest free. Make the best of your holiday and splash out- it's the last time I'm going to save the pennies in such a way. By the way, all the hostels we stayed in all over Europe, even the cheapest, were far better than this place and I had no more bed bug experiences in any of them I am glad to say.
It is worth noting that our room was in the annex of the guest house rather than the main building so I cannot vouch for the situation in any of these other rooms, I would not want to unfairly brand the whole place with the same mark, I am simply reporting our experience based on one visit.

Dear Guest,

Frankly speaking I do not remember you, but I have to comment on your review. You claim we had bedbugs although you cannot prove it.If you cannot prove it, you should not make statements like that. We had NEVER any bed bugs at all. If there is anything true in your lenghty description then I would guess you brought them with you in your belongings and took them away with you when leaving. You also claim I cannot speak English, I can assure you my English is good enough to discuss an issue like this. This should be a place for serious discussion, not fabrications and revenge (but what for"). Owner

“Stay Away From This Place!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2006

I originally attempted to book one of the apartments here by contacting Dum U Zlateho Stromu directly by email. Neither email that I sent reqesting to book was answered however. At this point I should have known better, but because the photos and description I had seen online were so appealing, I ended up booking an apartment here online through the site of HotelPlan.cz. Everything seemed to be fine and I received a confirmation of the booking (made almost 4 months in advance) from HotelPlan.

We arrived at the hotel office located at Novy Svet 13 on October 21st expecting to have a wonderful stay in Prague. We were met by someone in the office who, after telephoning someone else to say we had arrived (presumable HotelPlan), informed us in Czech (I do not speak Czech but understand a few words) that we no longer had a reservation because there was no heat in the room that I had reserved 4 months earlier. In addition we were told that we would be sent off in a taxi to Stare Mesto area where I did not want to stay because of the higher prices and thrings of tourists). Any reasonable person would assume that another comparable hotel had been located for us and that we were being sent there. The taxi driver spoke briefly to the woman at Dum U Zlateho Stromu and then asked us where we would like to be taken to. Only then did it become apparent that we were completely on our own and had been abandoned by Dum U Zlateho Stromu and HotelPlan.

  • Liked — Didn't get a chance to find out
  • Disliked — that they turned us away even with a reservation and provided no assistance to find other accommodation
  • Tips/Secrets — Avoid this place
