I booked this place to stay the night after I arrived from US and the night before I returned to the US at the other end of my trip. I specifically chose the hotel location for its quiet location and value, so I knew that it was not in the center of town, but it is easy to take the public transport if you don't want to walk. (The walk really isn't bad if you don't have a suitcase.) I like the castle area and since I was by myself, it made sense for my purposes.
The afternoon that I arrived, it took 15-20 minutes, some stress, and me having a maitre d' at a local restaurant call the numbers I had (I didn't have a phone) before he finally got through to someone and said that the lady was next door even though I had knocked repeatedly on the door for the actual address. She then came out from next door (why didn't they tell me to knock on the door to the left?) and let me in. She didn't really speak much English, I paid her and she said the owner would give me a receipt. I made her handwrite something anyway.
Luckily, that visit, she took me straight upstairs and I was quite happy with my room. It was quite large (not the single I expected - I think it was a triple), the bathroom was across the hall and so was the breakfast area. It was nice and quiet, the bed was comfortable and I managed to sleep through breakfast the next morning so the noise must not have been too bad with the other guests, if there were any. (Then again, don't really know if there were other guests that night, although I did hear people downstairs that morning.) It was older style, nothing fancy at all with the decor, but that was what I expected and it was fine.
The second visit - someone was there right away, but I encountered what I had read about in some of the other reviews - as she sent another group to a different location and then sent me to yet another one. Luckily, I had left my bag at the train station for pickup the next morning, because I had to hoof it over the hill (vs. her calling me a taxi I had to pay for) and meet a young guy to let me into the other place. I actually found it fairly easily, following the owner's verbal directions, and the young guy was waiting when I arrived. It was actually a pretty building, with a view over the valley across the street, and it appeared to be apartments on the other floors. My room appeared to be an apartment divided up into separate hotel rooms and, while small, it was perfectly fine for me with an attached bathroom and the white walls, white bed, dark wood look accents look. There was a little window that opened into a space between the building walls, but I didn't really care.
It turned out, however, that this place, despite the nice young guy's promises and my original request in my reservation, was extremely noisy (for me, the light sleeper). First, it was lightly raining and something was dripping in that space outside my window all night, loudly. Then, the ceiling noise was terrible also - the people came home late and there was no noise protection at all. They finally settled down at probably 1:30 or 2, but my night was pretty much ruined since I had to get up at 5:30 or 6 to catch the plane.
I would definitely NOT return there because I wouldn't want to risk not knowing the location and how noisy it would be. If you are a heavy sleeper, maybe you could have slept through the people above, but I don't know. Also, the policy of not telling you what location you will be at and making you go to the central location first is a problem for people who are taking public transport/walking and dealing with bags. Plus, I still don't know why someone didn't tell me to knock on the house's to the left door when that is where the person was. I didn't need that kind of stress after 24 hours of flying and traveling.
