We chose this hotel because of the excellent reviews and high rating it got on Trip Advisor - and it turned out to be a good choice, knowing nothing about Prague or the different areas in the town before we went. We were also very impressed to see that every review had obviously been read by the hotel and comments had been left in return - particulary when guests were not happy.
The hotel is in a quiet area about 15 minutes walk from Wenceslas Square which for us was ideal. The walk down to town every morning after breakfast was very pleasant and it can be varied taking a number of different streets - all with interesting shops and buildings. We only used the downtown tram one day to get to the Castle - number 22 (the tourist tram) direct from IP Pavlova Station (8 mins away) - but used the uptown tram to return every day as the walk back up from town after a long day on foot was arduous. The closest tram stop is literally 2 minutes on the level from the front door.
The hotel as we expected was very quiet and impecably clean and well maintained.
The room we were given was exceptional for the price. It was actually an apartment with a large lounge/kitchen/dining area, hallway with wardrobes, shower room/toilet and large bedroom. It extended from front to back of the hotel and although basic was ideal for our four night stay. Probably one of the best rooms we have had anywhere.
The windows in the rooms are all well sound proofed from the road - although it was nice to here the trams in the evening and morning with the windows open.
There were a couple of things wrong with the room - air con didn't work properly for example - but in September that was not a problem, and we expected tea and coffee facilities but only got a kettle with cups. On the plus side there is a good safe in room for small valuables which is really easy to use, the beds and pillows are very comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean.
The breakfast was basic but well presented and adequate - I guess variety, which was limited, is not a problem as most people only stay for a few nights - and the breakfast room was again very clean.
The main hotel lobby, lounge and bar are small but adequate (never very crowded when we were there) and there is free internet access so that made checking tram routes and checking in for the return flight very easy. The reception staff were also always friendly and obliging.
The local area is generally residential with a few offices and shops - but with some very good restaurants and bars - where you don't pay town centre prices. You literally only have to go 50 yards from the hotel to get a good variety of good quality food and drink in three or four bars and restaurants - all of which were closed shortly after 11 pm so no late night noise either. Try the french restaurant on the corner by the hotel - a little more expensive but not greatly so and very good food and wine.
