We can’t praise this hotel enough. Fantastic location just down from the castle and only five minutes’ walk from the Charles Bridge. The rooms we have stayed in (this was our fifth visit) have all been excellent. The staff are all incredibly helpful, polite and friendly. Nothing seems too much trouble. Being such a small hotel (there are only 10 rooms) public areas are limited – but there is a nice area to sit and rest, leave luggage at the end of your stay and a selection of books to read (plus free internet access via a pc). To be honest though, there is so much space in the rooms that you don’t need anything else. We were in room 6, a suite – huge bedroom (and bed) lovely and magnificently painted wooden beamed ceilings in the lounge which is even bigger than the bedroom. Bathroom as well as a shower room, two flat screen t.v.’s (several English channels) and a small kitchenette. What more could you want? Views and plans of all the bedrooms are available on their web site.
Catering facilities in the Santini Residence are limited. Breakfasts (pre-ordered the evening before from a big selection, hot and cold) can be delivered to your room or taken in the small bar area downstairs. There is a small bar at the front of the hotel, fine for a snack but not much more. However, there is a multitude of places to eat right next door and down the street – plenty to suit everyone. The bar we usually use, the St. Nicholas, just five minute’s walk from the hotel (first discovered on the advice of the hotel) seems to have changed hands since our last visit and was not so good.
The hotel was good for advice for a day out – and booked this for us as well as information about concerts. The Information Centre in the old square (which is 15-20 minute’s walk from the hotel) is extremely helpful and helped us to choose from a multitude of concerts on offer. The only downside I would say is that the hotel seemed a little more pricey than on our last visit, two years previously – there are cheaper five star hotels around, but whether they are as nice, friendly and well situated I wouldn’t like to say. However, there are still deals to be had and we ended up paying around £115 per night for the room and breakfast – a cracking deal, although we had only paid for a junior suite we were upgraded (well there has to be some benefits of staying several times before!).
To get to the hotel from the airport we used www.prague-airport-transfers.co.uk This was a simply great service, met on time by pleasant driver with a board with our name on it marked very clearly. Presented with informative maps and a voucher which gave us a free walking tour of Prague – great! Return taxi was there dead on time. You pay in cash or pre-pay over the internet. Good rates £18 each way (cheaper than booking through the hotel) and defeats the possibility of having problems over price and journey which, we understand is still a problem in Prague.
