“No-frills establishment, but well worth the price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2011

We’ve stayed in Hotel Nabucco in January 2011. The main attraction for us was the price – one does not come across 4* hotel with OK reviews for 30 EUR per night all that often, even in still (relatively) cheap Eastern Europe. However, the very price was the source of major doubts, as my wife could not believe in 4* service for this kind of price. It turned out that we both were right. Hotel does not match North American description of 4* (more like 3*), but worth it’s price and performs as advertised. It is a small place (about 30 rooms) and array of services offered is pretty small.
I’ll start with positive aspects. Price is unbeatable. We were quoted 30 EUR per double room per night (one extra child per room is permitted for 10 EUR per night, but you are advised to mention it during booking, as not all rooms are equipped with sofa beds), hot breakfast included, and that’s exactly what we paid. Rooms are decently sized for Europe (a bit smallish by North American standards, but not painfully so). Sanitary conditions are adequate. Parking in hotel’s yard is secure, but you might need to pay 10EUR per night (depending on the system you booked through, parking is free if you booked through HRS.DE) and you must surrender your car keys (as they might need to move your car across pretty small yard). There’s small bar in the lobby, which might satisfy your craving for a late-night coffee, beer or wine, but does not have any food except peanuts and chocolate bars. Street parking is allowed and free in this part of the city, but finding a vacant spot is not easy. It is 2-minutes walk to a streetcar (tram) stop Namesti Bratri Synku. From there you can take route 11 for 10 minutes (5 stops) ride to Vaclavske Namesti (St. Venceslaus Square) using short ride ticket (18 CK adult, 9 CK teenager aged 10-16, free for younger kids), or route 18 for a slightly longer (about 15 minutes) ride to the heart of Old City (it actually stops next to Charles Bridge) using 75-minute ticket (26 CK adult, 13 CK for a teen, free for kids under 10). The same route 18 with the same 75-minute ticket will take you across the Vltava river to Mala Strana & Prague Castle district. Trams are going every 5-7 minutes during daytime, 7-10 minutes early in the morning and late at night (until approx. half past midnight), but even in the night there’s a night service (be careful, as it uses separate route numbering system to distinguish between day and night routes) every half an hour. The neighbourhood does not look glamorous, but is pretty safe, according to locals. Breakfast is plentiful, if a bit plain, with regular refill. It includes eggs (scrambled, boiled or fried sunny-side up, but not made to order), couple of hot varieties (sausages, bacon, ham), 2-4 cheeses, 3-5 cold meats and your usual suspects of yoghurts, OJ, apple juice, cereals, some fruits and buns/cookies. And surprisingly good coffee machine, making very decent espresso, cappuchino, latte and hot choco.
Main negative aspect, in my opinion, is that it is not a Western 4* place, more like Eastern European 4*. Service, although attentive, is not polished and might hiccup sometimes (I would not blame front-line workers, they’re doing their best, but most of them are quite young and might lack an appropriate experience). Breakfast items are mostly of cheapest variety (I believe that juices are not even juices but “fruit cocktails”), but it is smoothed to a some degree by the fact that Czechs didn’t master Western art of cheap flavourless food just yet, so even cheap sausage tastes like sausage and bread can compete with any artisanal bread sold in North America. Hotel is situated next to (busy) railway tracks, and even modern soundproof windows do let certain amount of train noise in, if your room is facing railway (half of rooms are). Also please be advised that Google maps shows hotel’s location incorrectly, it is on Ctiradova right next to tracks, not within the city block as shown on the map. There’s no swimming pool (there’s a sauna but we didn’t try it).
All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend Hotel Nabucco to anyone, if price is right and one is looking for cheap but decent accommodation.

“Not a 4 star, but good value.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2010

Nabucco Hotel is a very decent hotel but certainly not a 4 star. The service is good. All of the staff is very helpful and polite. The rooms are spacious and pretty comfortable. The hotel has a unique design that gives it a distinct character. Overall I am satisfied with the stay there, but I noticed a few things that should be improved before they hotel can take on a 4 star rating.
There is not safe in the room. If you are looking to lock up your valuables you will have to be satisfied with an envelope held at the front desk with your room number and name. The furniture and room equipment comes from IKEA. While it is all practical and descent looking, it can't be considered quality stuff. Basically I feel that many 3 star hotels I have stayed at held a higher standard.
The location of the hotel is a bit out of the way, but the trams will get you where you need to be in a short amount of time. The hotel is tucked away in a darker side street, by the railroad trucks, but I did not find myself in any unsafe situations. The only crime observed was a couple broken car windows in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. If you drive anywhere in Europe make sure you remove all items from view when you leave your car on the street. Nabucco offers paid secured parking. I just parked in front of the hotel, on the street and removed everything from the car. The car stayed there for 3 days and I did not have any problems.
To sum it all up, the hotel is a good property worth a recommendation, but don't have high expectations. For the price I paid, it was certainly a bargain.

“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2009

Not in the immediate center of town, but easily reached with trams number 11 and 18. Staff very helpful, room clean and comfortable. Tv with BBC and CNN, other channels dubbed. Really nice shower and bathtub :) Breakfast was the only downside, not very good. Would defenetaly go again to Hotel Nabucco. Nearby pubs with really cheap prices, if you want to get some fine beer :) *Note: if you are going here in the summer, there is a train track near the hotel, which might bother you if you keep the window open. In the winter that was of course not a problem, didn't hear the trains at all.

“Definitely worth a look”

I stayed 4 nights in room 24 - a twin room. The room and particularly the en-suite bathroom were very clean and in good condition. The bed was a little firmer than some may like but not a problem for me. The tv provides CNN and BBC World News for the english speaking traveller. There's a mini-bar in the room but its a bit pricey. The previous reviewers complaints about noise only hold up if you leave your window open at night. They are double glazed and very effective at sound-proofing. During summer months I can understand why it would be a problem. Other guests were all middle-aged.

Breakfast was fine. Continental style - cereals, toast, mini croissants, ham, cheese, yoghurts, as well as scrambled eggs and small sausages. Tea/coffee/hot chocolate/'fruit' (some squash-like) juices.

A PC in the lobby provides free internet. Don't expect lightening broadband but its sufficient for browsing news etc.

Staff... the breakfast staff didn't interact very much and had to be asked for various buffet top-ups that would seem pretty obvious to anyone over-seeing the operation... oh well! At the other extreme you have the reception staff - can't praise them enough. Always helpful and smiling, particularly the beautiful Denisa and Olga :-). Their english is excellent so took frequent advantage of chatting to them!

Local area... didn't feel unsafe at any time. There are plenty of shops nearby. Bit of a hike from the city centre (I'd consider the Museum the centre) so buy a public transport 24hr pass (100 koruna / £4) and take buses/trams/metro as much as possible - you will do a lot of walking. Ticket machines located at most stops - they take coins only. Interestingly, you only need validate the ticket the first time you get on a bus/tram/metro...no-one checked the whole time we were there. The system basically works on goodwill. It took 45 mins to get from the hotel to the airport, including 3 changeovers.

Overall an excellent trip... great sights, nightlife...and for the price Nabucco is great value... will be going again next year!
