It was a last minute decision to book Prague in early Feb.3-8 for getaway weekend...happened to be during worst winter that Prague has witnessed in 30 years! -11C in the mornings and -18C at night. However, The Alchymist really made our holiday all the more special despite those sub-zero temperatures. We were welcomed with the famous hot wine (svarak) upon check in. The staff were extremely helpful (especially Mohammed, Denisa,Ahmed, and Emmanuel) were super in making sure all our requests were accomodated.
Our room was beautifully decorated with old world charm and gorgeous crystal chandeliers on painted ceilings, and our bathroom was full of all the necessary amenities, and most importantly had excellent water pressure. Despite the cold outside, the rooms were toasty and warm and we had no problems of complaints about any draft of cold seeping in.
There is so much charm in this hotel, with it's vaulted ceilings, painted celings, exquisite chandeliers, and warm colored walls.
The daily breakfast was wonderful, full of many choices - even items that were cooked to order such as our poached eggs. Every day between 5-6 the hotel had a free wine tasting (czech wine) with cheese. This were we discovered some wonderful new cheeses that were unique to Prague. Every night we enjoyed the two divine chocolates that were left on our bed after turn down.
The hotel is located is superbly located within a few walking minutes to the Charles Bridge and across the street from the American Embassy....but most importantly, for my husband, was the quaint Irish pub down our street where he got to watch his English premiership football games and I didn't have to walk far at night ( -23C) when I decided to join him.
The Alchymist owner must be complimented on his choice of building, location, and fit out - any chance of putting a fireplace?? that was the only missing factor in the winter for us. Thank you for making our Prague trip all the more special.
