Lovely comfortable hotel, ideally situated with very helpful staff. Situated in the Mala Strana and only a ten minute, very enjoyable, walk across the beautiful Charles Bridge (Karluv Most), it offers a high quality hotel away from the hub-bub of the tourist area in the Old Town.
Very much recommended public transport from the airport. A taxi will set you back 25-30 GBP. Although the hotel offers a shuttle service every two hours to the hotel (but not back to the airport), we missed a shuttle by ten minutes and rather than wait another 2 hours we caught the number 119 bus to Dejvicka. If you go to the tourist information counter in Terminal One they will give you a free map of the transport system. The map, called the "Day Operation Orientation Plan - Metro and Trams" does not start from the airport - so don't panic - but from Divoka Sarka, a stop en route to Dejvicka. Every bus stop is clearly marked with its location. Get off at Dejvicka and catch the number 20 Tram from the central reservation (Czechs drive on the right). The route is clearly marked on the map, and drops you right outside the hotel at Ujezci. On the return journey to the airport, leave the hotel and turn right, walk 200 yards to the tram stop marked Hellichova. Again get off at Dejvicka. When you get off the tram double back on yourself about 80 yards to the 119 bus stop (clearly marked AIRPORT). The charge for each person, one way is 32kc - a little over a pound and is valid on all buses and trams for the WHOLE DAY ! The trip takes about 45 mins each way. Make sure you buy your tram ticket BEFORE you get on the tram, it is cheaper that way, Tickets are available from the Petrin rail-car station opposite the hotel or from most Mini Markets.
I strongly recommend the CANTINA, a Mexican restaurant about 100 yards from the hotel. The food is superb but I advise you book as it is extremely popular.
The hotel is spotlessly clean and the rooms comfortable without the unnecessary frills you get in UK hotels and pay through the nose for. Free internet access is available from two computers in the lobby. Breakfast is ok, but if you expecting bacon and eggs, forget it ! Mountains of bread rolls, croissants, cakes, tea, coffee, juice etc but the hot offering is scrambled egg and mini frankfurters every morning. It is the ONLY thing I would recommend the management improve on - everything else is great and all you could possible want for a base to operate from.
Take a walk up the hill directly opposite the hotel - up to the Petrin Tower (a replica of the Eiffel Tower) There is a rail-car to the top for the light-weights but the walk is very rewarding and even with my back, I managed it ok !! The view from the top over the city is wonderful. On the ground floor of the tower is a little cafe - don't leave without trying one of their raspberry tarts - fantastic ! - and huge !
I can recommend a little Mini Market near the hotel, open until midnight. Turn right out of the hotel and walk almost up to the right turn to Charles Bridge and it is on your right.
If you need a chemist during your stay, turn left out of the hotel and first left. The chemist is 100 yards down on your right.
When in town try the Hot Wine which is on sale everywhere (I was there in January and don't know whether they sell it in summer) - and the local "Grog" which is Czech rum in boiling water with sugar added. Both VERY nice !
I would, unhesitatingly, use the ROMA again when we next visit Prague
Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor (we had 105). The lift does not go higher than this.
