“Dissapointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

We (a group of 12) booked two night in october 2011 at ths hotel, marketed as central prague 4 star.

where to start...

1. location. approx 20 mins walk from the historical watch tower... over the river and up a hill. if you like sports this is your hotel.

2. look & feel. old, dated, big rooms - they really look like in the middle ages.

3. no facilities (fitnes... etc)

4. Food - we only had breakfast - we didn't get any diseases - but this was very basic.

All in all, we rated this as maximum two star with huge rooms (for a two star hotel), far from the center.

Would not go back at any price because of location and because of the feel of visiting grandma of grandma ...

Dear Sir,

thank you for your kind informations about your stay and I am very sorry that our hotel did not evidently fullfill your expectations from stay in Prague.
As I understand your Romanian group stayed at our hotel 14 - 16. October this year and was booked through several travel agencies. According to the issues you stated in your review, I cannot get off feeling that our product was incorrectly presented to you and your guests. Which has finaly dissapointed your expectations.

Location by your presentation was stated as "far from the center". As per our hotel registration - Hotel Questenberk is located in PRAGUE 1 District which is the main and oldest part of Prague directly at the Prague Castle. Naturaly some of the attractions are under the Prague Castle hill and some of them on the top. Both ways is possible to walk (as stated max. 20 min.) or to take a tram 22 or 25 which goes every 5 - 10 min. from the riverside and ends about 200m from the hotel.
I do beleave here maybe became second mistake that your travel-guide did not correctly explain travel possibilities in Prague.
Compare to London or other big cities is heart of Prague very small (total 7 km accross). Which means that for example in London if you stay on Paddington, it can be still called as central London - but it would take you 1 hour to cross to Buckingham palace. From this point of view I do beleave that 20 min. drive by tram or walk can be still accepted as city center.

Secondary I see you were not satisfied with the hotel style - which is original rustical - with maximum respect to the original purpose of the building (ceasar hospital) from 1656. As our hotel is under watch of UNESCO, hotel must respect rules stated by the state historical commissary which do not allow to place moder "boutique" equipment into such building. We are sorry.

Third is your complain about facilities, again I am affraid that it might be directed to your travel agency who sold you your trip without explaining what type of hotel Questenberk is as issue of additional facilities (as fitness) is combined with our previous comment. Special facilities - like fitness, spa, wellness needs special construction modifications which will never be allowed from the side of the state historical commissary and UNESCO delegates.

Our hotel of course offers for groups full or half-board basis, but this was not ordered or requested from your travel agency (again). If you had anything missing on our breakfasts which is served as hot & cold buffet breakfast (incl. 4 - 5 hot dishes) we will be very happy to get your advise how we can improve our services.

Thank you for your all-over review which will definitely will be inspirative in increasing our will and level of services. I do beleave not all 2-stars hotels in the world has rooms around 45 sqm. equiped with original hand-made rustical wooden furniture with safe, minibar and own shower and toilet in the room or phones with direct calls, daily cleaning or hot and cold buffet breakfast. For better orientation in Prague we definitely recommend to contact our 24-hour front office clerks-concierge which will help you to navigate the easiest ways to travel around the city - saving your feet and of course your purse too.

Best Regards

“Quiet three star hotel in good location - not four start!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2011

The hotel pictures as booked on HRS were not representative of what we got, the room was very simple with dirty walls - marks from floods, with an old TV with CNN, one German and one Russian program, not even a single in Czech! Stuff was rather unhelpful and rude (as most Prague people seem to be), not responding to questions, giving wrong information about Prague public transport and actually being very rude on the check out. The breakfast did not have any fresh fruit as one would expect from 4* rating. THe hotel seems to be somehow connected with the Monastery restaurant nearby. This is a total rip off place which should be avoided. The prices on the menu are not what you are being charged - i.e. non alcoholic beer marked as 60Kc would be charged at 72Kc! When pointed, we were told that the menu is wrong and the waiter is right, without any appology.. absolutely rediculous! Prague people yet need to learn what generosity, manners and smile is all about!

“Hotel Questenberk”

I'll try to keep it short: It was a very good hotel, with elaborate breakfasts and clean and spacious rooms. I can't comment on lunch or dinner, because I didn't have any at this hotel. Some staff members prefer to speak English, others German. Great view from the dining room over the centre of Prague. It is situated at a walking distance from the old town centre, that is, if you're able-bodied and don't mind a brisk walk uphill on your way back to the hotel. (Hence the great view). Let me give you a tip about how to get there from the airport if you would like to use the public transport: If you plan on only using public transport to the hotel that day, buy a ticket for bus, tram and underground which is valid for 75 minutes (about 18 Ch.Kr.) Take a 119 or 254 bus from the airport to Dejvicka. There you can continue by underground to Malostranska (green line). From there, you can take tram line 20 or 22 (Bila Hora), but get off at Poholorec. This trip took us no longer than 45 minutes. You can also take a 179 bus to Bila Hora, cross the street and below you'll see the tramrail, change to a no. 22 tram and get off at Pholorec. From Poholorec, it's about 300 metres to Questenberk. Walk down and at the fork you keep right. There you'll see the Questenberk hotel, with it's straircase and the statue. Didn't manage to keep it short after all, but hope this tip will help you.

“Really lovely and staff fabulous.”

Just got back from a 3 day trip to Prague and we booked this hotel because of the rates. We also liked the quirkiness of the building. I'll not repeat other review points, but just add a few things that may have not been previously mentioned.
My husband and I had to fly separately. I arrived at 10am from Doncaster and he had to fly at 6pm from Gatwick. I'm quite a frequent flyer but was a little intimidated by travelling alone in Prague. This hotel sends instructions on how to get from the airport on public transport and it really is so easy. It takes approx. 45 mins from start to finish and tram 22 drops you across the square from the hotel. The receptionist was more than friendly. I was over an hour early for check in but after a quick call to housekeeping the room was available. We booked a deluxe room and got room 406 which is mentioned in a previous review. The view from this room is amazing. It also is on the monastery side of the hotel so 6am bells are to be expected. Just spend an evening in 'The house of Beer' as we did - voila! No more bells. There is a safe in the room which I was pleased about because of all the the stories about pickpockets. Breakfast is 7-10am and is more than good enough to set you up for the day. There is a mini market across the road so you can buy a few things like snacks and beer and keep it cold in the mini bar. Don't hesitate. This hotel is really lovely and in a wonderful location by the Castle.
