We stayed during a 3 night/4 day city break with Travelsphere. The hotel is situated in the Karlin suburb of Prague, but the tram stop outside the hotel near to the Mercedes garage means that the city centre is only a few minutes away - the number 8 tram takes you to Republic Square (Namesti Republiky) and the number 24 takes you to Wencelas Square (Vaclavske Namesti). There is not much of note in the environs of the hotel, but there is a good pizzaeria/restaurant across the street and the metro is also nearby.
As for the hotel itself, we had a double room on the 6th floor, which was very generously sized and even had a small balcony. The bed was comfortable and there was a TV, but not coffee/tea/drinks facilties and there was no hairdryer. The bathroom and WC were separate.
General impression was of a "budget" chain hotel with a few oddities or gremlins. For example, there was only a single duvet stretched across the double bed (no problem for us as it was rather warm) and the bathroom had had its lock removed for some reason and never closed properly. The grouting in the bathroom around the shower was stained and looked like it could do with a thorough clean. The WC was a bit temperamental too. There was a lingering smell of tobacco smoke in the corridors, which sometimes also infiltrated the room (suspect this is a common problem in Prague due to smoking attitudes). As for food, the breakfasts were adequate, but not inspiring - mainly a selection of cereals, rolls, cheese, cold meats, etc. The dining room is modern and brightly lit with a bar area - it is slightly reminiscent of a school canteen in the way the tables are organised.
The hotel staff spoke good English and were usually helpful. Its worth noting that you can buy tram tickets at the reception and they have a luggage room where you can store suitcases on the day of your departure. Its difficult to rate this hotel as I suspect it would be regarded as "good" by Czech standards, but "a bit below average" by most western European standards. I noted that there is another Ibis Hotel near to Republic Square, but the room rate is obviously a few euros higher. I think for a city break on a modest budget the Ibis Karlen is a reasonable choice - especially as most people mainly spend their time sightseeing and eating in Prague, with limited time at the hotel.
Room Tip: Ask about rooms with a balcony - these seem to be the ones that are generously proportioned.
