“Ruined wedding anniversary”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

people found this review helpful

I reserved this hotel because of its popularity and fairly good reviews through history.
The price was half of the rack prices.
When we arrived we were quite abashed about the dark and scarry entry of the hotel. Lots of frightening people packed around the area.
The young woman at the reception was rather rude. The electronic key card worked maybe after third or fourth attempt.
The room was really dark with only a small window in the ceiling. Really cheap looking Ikea-style furnitures. Quite uncomf mattress and pillows. The kitchen was there ok but the fridge was full of mini bar stuff.
So no own foods or drinks to put there.
The saddest thing was though the water incident. My wife tried to take a shower after our arrival, bad chance no water! I marched to the reception to ask what is going on. The answer was that they cannot do anything that it is because of plumbing of the water company. All they could offer is free mineral water! When I asked how should we have shower the answer was "what can we do?"!!!!!
Finally they offered a chance to have a shower in another room next day but only this one time!!!
On last two mornings we woke up so early the other guests wouldn´t be using water, so the water pressure was barely ok to have a shower.
A real four star hotel would have offered another room with enough water pressure or a completly different hotel! Any hostel or
pension would have done the job better!
This hotel is nowhere near a four star hotel! There is no restaurant on site, the rooms are straight from a cheap hostel and staff doesen´t deserve any positive
comments. Without the water problem this hotel could be possibly a two and half star.
P.S. We travelled already a couple of years ago but ta doesen´t allow to choose earlier dates.

Dear Guest and all Tripadvisor members,

I've just finished with reading your review and would like to react.

I do appologize for all inconveniences happened to you during your stay in EA Hotel Julis**** but I would like to explain it to you as well. It is a pitty that you did not mention these problems to an executive manager or directly me during your stay, we are there every day and try to solve any problem immediately and directly on the spot.

Hotel Julis is located direct on Wenceslass Square - on the main shopping, social and cultural Square in Prage. Everything important is happening there. The entrance to the hotel is directly from this Square. Because of the reason described on top I would like to assure you that it is one of the safiest places in Prague. By elevator you can get only to the reception and nowhere else. To the other floors and parts of the hotel you can get only with using your key-card. I personally think it is one of the best opportunities how to make the guests feel safe.

The problem with your keys could be caused by your cell phone. Sometimes when you have the card near your phone it will delete the datas and the key is not working properly. If this was not a reason of the problems I do appologize for it.

Hotel Julis is not design or boutique hotel. The furniture in our hotel is completely new - just 3-4 years old, but we are not that kind of the hotel where every piece of furniture is an original. The fridge in the room is used as a minibar as well, but there are just couple of pieces of goods and if you wish to use a fridge only for your food, we are able to take all the goods away from the room.

I do appologize for the problems with a water in your room. The temperature in Prague (as well as in other parts of Europe) was extremly low and unfortunatelly the water pipe system in Old Prague is not ready for these temperatures. Therefore on some parts of the city were problems with water pressure, not caused by hotel. We tried to do our best to solve it immediately with a water supplier company, and were able to do it within 24 hours. Reception staff offered you another room but you dcided to make only a shower there.

Dear Guest once again I am sorry for all your inconveniences I can imagine that you wanted to be your wedding aniversary perfect. Unfortunatelly hotel could not be responsible for all the problems as you surely can understand. I hope we will have an opportunity to demonstrate you that we do our job good as you can see from other reviews. For any other informations or questions feel free to contact me directly

Sincerely yours

“Great short option at Wenceslas Square”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Check in was quick, room was clean, balcony option had a great view to the Square. Staff were helpful and accommodated for an extra night with minimal fuss. Breakfast buffet not so varied but cafe was nice and clean. Beds were great and comfy, pillows were the normal European style.....overall experience was great for a hotel in Prague. Oh btw, not so sure about the tv...expect only one English speaking channel.

Room Tip: Get the balcony for a nice view!

“Good option for stay in Prague”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Just returned from my 4-day city trip in Prague. We stayed in hotel Julis in center of Prague. Hotel was booked by our agency. Check in was fast no issue at all. Room is spacious and clean. Ok, there is no LCD TV that you would expect in 4* hotel, but I did not go there to watch TV (few local , russian, CNN and few german programs). Room has table with four seats, small tea-table, 2-st sofa, double bed... and small kitchenette. Even though the furniture is not the fanciest and is rather simple, I have to say that you have all you need, furniture is clean and not damaged. Bathroom is clean and has all you need. Breakfast is very good: offers lots of variety for any taste. Staff was no efficient and helpful. Our room was on street side, so if you do not like to hear noise from outside, better ask for are room on other side. Now in Christmas period we could hear people singing, laughing and loudly speaking till 5 in the morning but we actually liked is as it was just addition to overall Christmas spirit. From the window we were able to see the whole Vaclavske square, pity we couldn't open the windows widely. I would recommend this hotel as a good choice for any city-trip traveler. Everything is nearby and you can really feel the spirit of Prague. And not to forget: it offers internet for free so even business travelers will get all they need.

Dear Guest,

let me personally thank you for writing this comment on Tripadvisor pages. I really appreciate it because thanks to these reviews we are able to improve our services.

We have LCD TVs only in our executive rooms but during this year we will continue with changing the TVs in other parts of hotel as well. So when you will come next time you will be able to see the changes :-)

Hotel Julis is divided in two buildings - one with a view to the Square. AS you mentioned it could be little noisy. And the second one is with a view to a Franciscan Garden, which is closed during the night so there is perfect calm and quiet. So everybody can decide what type he prefer.

As you mentined there is free internet connection for our guests. Approximately 70% of the hotel is covered by wi-fi signal, but there is cable connection in all the rooms as well. Even that there is a free internet corner at reception for those who have no laptop by themselves.

Once again thank you for your review and would like to invite you to our hotel in a future.

Best regards

“Poor service/reception”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

person found this review helpful

I am definitely not going to book this hotel ever again. I booked a non-refundable family room but on the day of travel, I had problems with the kids ID cards. I called the hotel to try and explain the situation. The reception told me they would try and cancel the booking and that they would write to my email address the outcome. They didn't write and just charged my card for a stay I never made, which I am ok with, but I am not ok with how they never had the decency to write the email they promised.
