Me and a group of friends booked a trip to Prague to stay at this hotel at the end of September. We all booked through a variety of ways - some direct with the hotel, some via an online travel agent and some with Airmiles. The accomodation was all booked at the end of July and confirmed.
When we arrived at the hotel mid morning - I was in the first group as we were in two separate taxis, I was told that we wouldnt be able to stay at the hotel as there were no rooms available. I said that you have got to be joking as we had booked the accomodation in July and it had been confirmed etc. I was told by the reception staff that because we were only staying 2 nights we couldnt have a room as there were some "long term" guests staying at the hotel - not sure what they meant by that. When the second half of our group arrived - about 10 mins after us - they thought we we joking - unfortunately not. To cut a long story short we were taken to an alternative hotel in Prague 4 - the other side of the city which wasnt of a very good standard. To be fair to the Stirka - they did actually take us to the alternative hotel and they did ring our taxi transfer company up and rebook the pickup back to the airport for us - which saved us a job. If you are considering booking at this hotel - just be aware that when you turn up - you may not have room. I got the impression that our case was not an isolated incident and its the booking agencies such as late rooms etc that overbook the accomodation - the hotel doesnt seem to have a handle on the number of actual bookings made.
