The Astra Hotel in Prague is situated outside the city center. It takes about 20-30 minutes (including walking to/from metrostation) to get from the hotel to the city. The Astra Hotel is located in a neighbourhood, so surrounded by flats and other normal houses. There is a supermarket located next to the metrostation, which was a 5-10 minutes walk.
I was visiting the hotel with a Groupon voucher so this hotel was a real bargain. The room was great, sleeping and sitting area were seperate, as was the toilet and the bathroom. That was an absolute plus. The bathroom and furniture inside the room is a bit dated and could use some fresh paint, some furniture should be replaced due to stains. But the bed was great and big and I have slept very well. There is a refrigerator in the room which is handy to store your own drinks. What is one big drawback, is the fact that you can not stand up straight in the shower. The showerhead is placed too low, and even if you get it off the standard, the water pipe was not long enough to put the showerhead above your head, and I'm not even very tall.
The breakfast is a buffet. It served different kinds of bread, eggs, fruit juices, more than enough to start your day. The breakfast room is not that big so it can be busy in the morning. Included in the voucher was one dinner. I didn't really like the taste, but on the other hand, my boyfriend did.
The staff in the reception area all spoke English and were very nice. You can also book your trips and tours there with a discount and they are happy to help you with directions or other things you have questions about.
This hotel is great for budget travellers. The rooms are quite big and the staff is friendly. All in all, an ok hotel.
