“Aging but not bad!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Born in 1889 as the Hotel Archduke Stephan, the Evropa was recast in the early 1900s as an Art Deco hotel. However, this is yet another classic that has seen much better days. Though the statue-studded exterior, still one of the most striking landmarks on Wenceslas Square, has recently been polished, the rooms are aging; most don’t have bathrooms and some are just plain shabby. The best choice is a room facing the square with a balcony. The hotel’s famous cafe, a wood-encased former masterpiece that no longer glows, furthers the theme. Still, this is an affordable way to stay in one of Wenceslas Square’s once-grand addresses.

“Great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

My partner and I ate here even after the tour guide slated the food for being over priced and I am so glad we did.

Wished we had tried this restaurant sooner as it food was excellent and by far the best we ate in Prague.

The decor does look a little bit tired, but we found this all the more interesting to see the original fittings.

The waiter really made this an experience to remember as he was very professional and was able to tell us about the history of the hotel/restaurant and his suggestions on the food and wine was spot on.

You will be glad you gave this place a chance.

BAG STOLEN WHILST WATCHED BY OUR WAITER AN ARGUMENT OVER SERVICE
We sat down in a small enclosed area where our waiter came straight over to take our order. He was very curt with us though we were dressed no differently to his other guests. During our drinks it appeared that a dodgy single man came and sat at the table behind us. The waiter did not go over to him and so he didn't order. He then got up I noticed him as we went past the table with my bag in his hand, we shouted and an elderly couple sat nearest the enterance stopped the guy and snatched the bag back. Our waiter who was stood by the doorway came over at this point once it had been dealt with. Thankfully I got the bag back without help or concern from our waiter, not what I would call good service at all.
He then brought our bill withe the words SERVICE IS NOT INCLUDED underlined on the bill and then explained it to us verbally also. Naturally I did not want to leave a tip to the waiter so we didn't. He came to collect the change and noticing there was nothing left preceded to explain again that service was not included - to this I explained that I did not believe it was deserved due to the altercation he could have avoided, he explained again not included that he had given good service as he had changed our ashtray - I believe that is his job, not above and beyond. We were told that 'whatever country you come from is strange and we should consider eating at Macdonlds' We certainly will

“A No Frills Room. Great Location. Great Price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

We have stopped here twice before during the last 3 years. The main hotel rooms are cheap but even cheaper are the no frills rooms to the rear. (always around the £30 per night). These are basic rooms with bed, sink and wardrobe. A couple of communial toilets are located in the hall way. These rooms are situated to the rear of the hotel and are very quiet. They are rented by Lou Vacek,( http://www.lou-evropahotel.cz/ ) mainly for the student type or like us, people who just want somewhere cheap to kip for the night after long days/nights exploring around the city. It is possible to pay for breakfast in the main hotel area, but it's just as easy to jump on a tram and eat at many of the nearby places. If your looking for 5 star treatment with all the mod cons then be warned, THIS IS NOT for you. Ideally situated in the centre of the city with less than a minutes walk to the nearest tram, bus or metro. We are going again this September and would highly recommend this place to anyone who like us, are visiting Prague to see the sights of the city and not the decoration or facilities of the hotel.

“Well there you go!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

We were messed about by an apartment owner and ended up here.Once over the shock of the initial impression we decided to make the best of it. It was clean and quiet (except the bed that squeaked every time you moved.) Staff were lovely. Chocolate cake for breaky is the way to go!!!! Central to everything, Do not believe the photos our room bore no resemblance. If you are looking for cheap it is OK.
