“Another Fab Trip Back in Time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2011

Hi all, I stayed at Grand Hotel Evropa, Venceslas Square, Prague in November 2004 & again in June 2011.

I emailed them well in advance to request my needs & I got what I believe was a favourable cash price option.

Last refurbished 1903-05 says it all. If you want an authentic Bohemian feel to your hotel then I can recommend this. I had no problems whatsover. Room & en-suite bathroom large & confortable with balcony overlooking "The Square". You cannot get more central. I also thought the Buffet Breakfast was fab & filling - no complaints at all.

There is no TV in the room, but the wi-fi worked for us, although was not superfast. I don't travel abroad to watch TV in my room anyway as I prefer to get out & walk around.

The hotel does not have any additional faciliries such as swimming pool or sauna, but I can live without these.

All the staff I encountered were pleasant & fine - no problems - if I was to return & they had vacancies, I would stay there again.

I just love staying in a place that is culturally famous & virtually the same as it was back in 1903-05 (except for the Wi-Fi)

Room Tip: email your requirements well in advance

“Unique Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

A room was booked on my behalf when I visited the Czech Republic to judge a dog show, and I had no idea what to expect. A fascinating but somewhat gloomy place where there did not appear to be many other guests. Exterior and foyer magnificent and staircases and landings would make ideal settings for a film about decadent Prague. Room was OK, best feature by far being the view over the Wenceslas square, pity about the MARKS & SPENCER which somehow made the setting less glamorous.
Bathroom was ghastly though the bath was huge, took forever to fill even half full. The hot water took a while to arrive and all the plumbing seemed tired, the loo was distinctly smelly. Breakfast was served on the mezzanine floor, on a self-service basis. The staff were helpful, if unsmiling. All in all an interesting experience for a one-off, maybe not a place to stay longer despite the impressive first appearance

“A pleasant surprise that hugs you when you walk in the door.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2011

I would describe this hotel as the Miss Havisham of hotels. It is like an old lady who has been dressed up for many years waiting fro someone to come and love her again. The art neuvoux decorations hug you the second you walk in the door. Almost immediately you can feel the spirits of balls and galas past surrounding you and wanting you to join in. The rooms come in many shapes and sizes and many of them do not have individual bathrooms, but the shared ones in the corridors are perfectly fine. Once Pragues grandest destination, the value of this hotel is terrific. it is right in the center of town, on Pragues famous Wensaslaus Square, so you will not need to pay for metro tickets, whereas most of the "cheap hostles" are not so centrally located, so transportation becomes another expense. Also breakfast is not only included but also delicious. The staff is welcoming and friendly and one evening the lady behind the desk kindly suggested that I put on a sweater because it was cold outside.

“outstanding art nouveau architechure and furniture with an elegant faded glory”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

This hotel is just fantastic, especially for anyone interested in the art nouveau period. It is a time warp from that elegant edwardian era and all the architechure ,fittings and furniture are just as they would have been in the 1900,s. As soon as you walk through the entrance you could be mistaken for thinking you have stepped back in time. The staff were always very helpful and gave a lot of good advise on visiting attractions and eating in Prague. We had to catch an early flight and without any fuss they arranged an early alarm call , a taxi and a supurb packed breakfast. We wanted extra pillars for the beds and again all arranged without any fuss. The hotel has a lovely faded glory ambiance so if you are seeking a modern hotel with boxes for bedrooms and everything in pale insipide colours then this hotel is not for you. For the rest of us it is just brilliant.
