Situated in the Old Town this UNESCO WOrld Heritage listed property feels more like a small family inn than a hotel, but it is a place where the experience is greater than the sum of all it's parts! THE most superb location, on the river, at the foot of the Charles Bridge. We had a loft room with double bed (& sofa bed for the children); breathtakigly picturesque views of the river & all the activity on it. The room itself was huge at about 70sq m, decor was quite sparse but lovely wooden pieces (wardrobe, table & chairs). Ample space for 3 suitcases & winter jackets & coats - there is also a small hallway as you enter the room for hanging wet weather gear, which is a great concept & makes SUCH a difference to be able to leave all heavy/wet items in this space before entering the room itself. Heating was good. Very clean & attentive staff. The boys on the front desk were SO helpful with all sorts of information & always friendly & ready to assist. The breakfast area was like a 'pub' with stone walls & heavy timber tables & chairs; they offered a really good breakfast with pastries, cereals, eggs & cold cuts etc.
Down Side: there is no lift - but don't let this stop you as you won't notice it & the boys bring up the luggage anyway. The bathroom however is the one area that needs to be improved!! Way too small and because the loft rooms have tilted ceilings, the mirror was actually stuck on the ceiling!! So you had to look up....getting severe neck strain to look in the mirror!!
Good for 1 night maybe 2 night stay but beyond that the bathroom will start to bug you!
The location makes such a difference as you step out into this wonderful medieval, cobblestone street & can go straight ahead to the Art Gallery or through the park & take the cable tram to the top of the mountain to the mini Eiffel Tower, Monastery, Castle & the spectacular bird's eye view of Prague - great photos! OR turn right & head up the stairs to the Bridge & across into the Clock Tower square. The Christmas Markets mid-December were like a fairytale. Just delightful.Found all Czechs to be extremely friendly & down to earth, welcoming people. Whilst it was -1 there was no snow yet..it would be breathtakingly beautiful with snow.
