We stayed here after the hotel we had orginally planned to stay in was double booked. Our travel agent sent us to the Ambassador, so we were going into there blind. We were told by the travel agent it was 5 star. It isn't, but this probably shouldn't put you off. The location was perfect for seeing Prague. Right on Wensesclas Square, and within walking distance of all the main attractions. Also, close to public transport links (for the airport and stuff).
Public areas were pretty nice, and the staff were all really helpful. But the room we stayed in was in need of a refurb. Not dirty or anything, just a bit dated, scruffy and tired looking.
Having said that, there's so much to do in Prague, how much time do you plan to spend in your room?!
If location is more important to you than marble bathrooms, stay here. If you'd rather taxi it into town for the sake of having a room that looks like something from Grand Designs, don't!
There's a great roof terrace bar a few doors down (towards the national museum). I can't remember it's name, but you'll find it if you look. Go there afer dark for a few cocktails, the views are worth the slightly exaggerated bar prices!
