Firstly I would like to point out that the staff in this hotel are very helpful and polite and a nice young man was very helpful in recommending a few places to eat. The handy man even helped us with a problem we had with a case lock.
Upon arrival - very polite staff and rooms were available. 6 in party and we had 3 rooms. Asked to book spa to be advised totally booked - day and through the night for every one of the 4 days we would be there - they did not even check to see. Very strange we thought but we would try again next day was our thought.
Entering the rooms - Freezing cold and when we asked for the heating to be cranked up we were advised it only comes on every half an hour then goes off for around 20 mins. Not ideal when temperatures are as low as - 11 !!! No milk with tea and coffee facilities - when asked we were advised milk is for breakfast only ! So if you like it black then you are fine. We all went and started our sight seeing.
No rooms had hot water on the first night - it had run cold apparentlywe were advised and the manager had to be called. So we had to go out after walking around all day without a shower/wash as there was no hot water -not even luke warm. No real apology was offered.
1 room - the shower controls kept coming off and one of the other rooms - you could not even call it a shower - it was a dribble. Even if you stayed under it for 10 mins your body still was not completely wet. Again this was raised but nothing done. So our friends had to use our showers.
Each day we were there we asked again to use the Spa or at least be able to book it - as after all we had booked a Spa Hotel and as such expected to be able to use it at least once. We were advised fully booked again - locals use it also and pay to use it. So the fact we had paid for a spa hotel that we wanted to use really mean't nothing - we understand we would have paid a fee to use it but we did not even get the chance to use it. We went up to floor 6 where it is and it is very small anyway - the mind boggles as to why its being used all through the night!
Beds made and room cleaned daily which was good. Room very very basic and very small however to be fair beds were comfortable. Only room for 1 person to pass all around the bed. Flat screen TV in room.
Breakfast - very minimal - 2 cereals, apple and orange juice, toast, a few cold meats, few cheese slices, tea, coffee and nequilk, hotdog sausages, cold boiled eggs, some potatoe mush, luke warm fried eggs. Not brilliant and the only thing really hot was the nesquilk.
This hotel in our view is definatley not a 4* at all 2* + maybe. It was value for money (excluding the issues we had above) and as long as you want basic accomodation,no frills, ok-ish breakie and no use of the spa - then book it.
Only 15 mins walk from Wenceslas Square - which is good
We did not purchase any tram/metro tickets at all - all within walking distance. 1 hour brisk walking to Prague castle -changing of the guard every hour on the hour however - at noon there is also a flag ceremony aswell.
Jewish quarter about 45 mins from hotel
Charles Bridge about 35 mins from hotel .
Dancing house (Fred and Ginger) about 25 mins from hotel
A visit to the monestary is a must and try the Flamendr (think thats how its spelt) lovely and hot pork, chicken and beef stew. Ribs is also highly recommended.
Petrin tower is great and has a lift - a fantastic view of Prague can be seen on a clear day.
Astronomical clock - is apparently No1 attraction :( - not in our view.
A visit to Kutna Hora - 1hr away to see Ossuary (bones church) is recommended - book with the hotel its around £30 each and you are out for 5 hours.
Boat trip around Prague Venice - £7 each - again good views from the water.
Funicular tram - good ride - only 5 mins for about £1
Vsysehrad - good place to see a really good view of old Prague and across the water
Legends music and bar - is a must - only 5 mins from hotel and food is lovely and really reasonable - locals use it so it must be good.
Lots of starbucks coffee shops about to warm you up if you need it and rest your feet!
Toilets - do charge for the majority - about 5p
Good walking boots or shoes - is highly recommended as streets are cobbled and it does take its toll on your feet.
