Arrived here late on a Friday evening with my husband and a friend. We had booked a double and a single room. The room keys were issued, and they copied down the information from our ID's. With only one other car in the lot and only 2 other ladies we met twice the hotel seemed not very busy. So we heard nothing all night long.
The single room had a twin bed and was smaller, but still had bathroom, minibar, TV. The double room was a bit larger, had an area for suitcases, a desk with TV (English news channels and a few German channels available), a small table with 2 chairs, a big queen (maybe even king) sized bed, 2 large nightstands. The bathroom looked newly redone, all very clean. Towels were clean and fluffy. Shower caps provided, also make up remover pads and Q-tips. Liquid hand soap and shower gel/ shampoo from dispenser. Water came out very hot, and with good pressure, so shower was really good. (If someone in the room turns on sink tab, the shower gets cold!!!)
Sleep quality was not so great, because the beds are very hard. It appears there is a wooden board under the mattress and the mattress is just too thin to make it soft enough. For people who enjoy sleeping in hard beds they will be great though. Both my friend and I woke up with a back ache, my husband, who usually dislikes hard beds, said he had slept well in it.
We were here for one night, and just wanted to sleep, so we cannot comment on the sauna.
Rooms have no AC, and opening the window was a bit complicated because they open differently.
When we had gotten our things upstairs we wanted to go out to dinner. The lady at check in was very friendly and spoke good German. She gave us a map and suggested a restaurant only 10 minutes to walk to. So we left, but took the wrong road (not hard, as there are no road signs at all!) and when we turned left, there was nothing. Found an ATM, which was good because we still held no Czech money until then. Never found the restaurant and went back up to the hotel. The lady was really sorry we had not found it, and we ordered off the delivery menu of a restaurant they had available. It took about an hour, but we were able to sit in their bar (the only guests) and had our drinks provided. When the food arrived, the lady at check in took it in, and then arranged it on plates for us in the kitchen. We also paid her later, which made it easier.
Since all restaurants seem to allow smoking, this arrangement was very nice as we are all non-smokers. Smoking is allowed in the bar though, but we were the only guests. Didn't smell like smoke, either.
Next morning we came down to a very nice breakfast. The new girl from check in (she spoke English) and the cook both ran to get the buffet ready. It was supposed to open at 7:30, and we got there 7:30 sharp. So they ran. Also they had the widest selection of tea I have ever seen, and of course, also brought coffee. Breakfast had 2 kind of rolls, rye bread, white bread, jams, nutella, cereal, milk, 2 kinds of juice, cheese, ham, cream cheese, butter, ... everything you would get in any good European hotel. There also was a menu to choose from - in addition to the breakfast buffet, all included in the room rate. The check in lady took our orders and ran with it to the cook almost. There were scrambled eggs or sunny side up, with bacon or ham, omelette with cheese and ham, or tomatoes, or peas. The omelettes were really good, as were the sunny side ups. After we had served ourselves with juice, the lady from the kitchen came in to refill right away, even though there only seemed to be 2 other ladies in the hotel, and there was plenty left.
We came upon some small package and it only said things in Czech on it. It looked like tomatoes on the print, and it came in a small canister. So we asked the check in lady what it would be, and she didn't know the word in English. She described it to us, and we understood it would be like a liverwurst paste sort of. We were fine, holding off of it, but a minute later the girl came back to our table, saying she had looked it up in the dictionary and now had the word for us.
Both girls and the cook seemed to go out of their way to help us, which is now very rare at hotels, I think. They were really sweet and helpful, apologizing if something went wrong, even if it wasn't their fault.
Had it not been for the hard beds, I would have given the review an excellent. Also: this is a very quiet area. There isn't much to see or do. In the wider area you find residential houses only, and more the lower-paid residents. Everything was clean and we felt safe to walk around after dark, though as a single woman, I may not have liked it too much. In the morning, my husband and I took a little walk before breakfast at the nearby lake. Small, but beautiful, with the fisherman there already as mist was rising from the lake and meadows, with cliffs on the other side of it... really, really pretty.
The parking lot is under video surveillance, as is the hotels reception area.
Getting here with public transportation is possible (10 minute hike up from the bus/ train stop), but not advisable. Parking is free and easy. This hotel is for those who enjoy a quiet night, and really good service. Also, the price was really low with only about 50 Euro for the double room, including breakfast. If we ever return to this area, we would likely go back here.
Room Tip: ask for a room with a view. We didn't, but we got there at night, and left early the next mornin...
