I was in Hradec Kralove for business for 6 days in October. The organization who hired me booked the hotel and paid for it. I did have to pay one extra night out of my own pocket.
The hotel is average. I must have gotten the room that is not renovated yet, because it looked nothing like what they posted in their photo gallery on their website. My room was small and with old furniture, decor. However, it got a balcony, even though you couldn't sit outside anyway. The balcony faces the train station which is also where all buses come together. It could be a bit noisy if I left the door/window opened.
The room was ok, more like a motel room in the States... nothing fancy at all. I had to ask for sheet change after the 3rd night. I think the housekeeper tried to tell me they only change it after a consecutive 5 night stay.
It got quite cold at night and the heat could not be turned on for whatever reason. I had to ask for extra blanket.
The receptionists were usually quite good and friendly. The morning call was right on, but they didn't make sure that you pick up the phone. There was no alarm clock or hairdryer in the room. One benefit of facing the train station is that there's a huge clock when you look out of the window which is very visible, even at night.
The breakfast was pretty good, in Czech's standard. Some morning there was even someone at the station making fresh eggs or bacon for you. They like to burn the eggs though, so make sure you tell (or motion) them to flip soon. And good luck trying to get egg white only...
The hotel's location has its plus and minus. It is close to the train and bus station so if you arrive by train or bus, it's right there. There's a Tesco - a department store with big supermarket on the ground floor - less than 5 minutes on foot. However, the old town square, which I normally dine and walk around is 3-4 bus stops away. One could walk to the old town square from the hotel. It's about 15-20 minutes walk. But when you just wanted to get something to eat, you wished it's right outside of your hotel.
It was an ok stay. However, I would not be happy had I had to pay its published full price (1600 kc, about US $80) for the extra night. The organization who put me up must have a contract with them for a special rate. What I am trying to say is that it is not worth the value if you have to pay 1600 kc for a single room.
