“Really cool stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2009

It was my first time in the hotel Hradiec Kralove. I was very pleasantly surprised by all! Friendly and helpful staff, silent and clean room and the breakfast was also excellent. Willing receptionist helped me with a checking of bus departure back to Prague in the morning. When I will be back in Hradec I am sure I will stay at the same hotel - great service for a great value!!!

“Disgusting Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2008

This hotel is the worst example I have ever seen.

The place was dirty, the hallways were stained with water damage and mold, the carpets in the hallways and dining room were stained, windows were so dirty or damaged by the elements that you could not look out of them, furniture was repaired with masking tape - the best, we could not get out of our room for over an hour due to a faulty handle, and the room phones did not function all week, nor did they provide essential numbers such as reception.

Disgusting!!!

“Rooms not so nice.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2008

I'm describing in detail how the rooms in this hotel look so that you can get a feel for the place. We were in this hotel with a large group of people passing through Hradec Kralove. The central areas such as the reception and the restaurants look okay, but the rooms are in urgent need of renovation.

Our room had green carpet that made a sound when walking on it in some places, probably due to a plastic material underneath it. We heard that some of our friends had better floorcovering in their rooms. The beds have thin mattresses. The bedding is covered in crispy-clean white sheets, but thin enough to see that the coverings itside the sheets are not so clean.

The water coming out of the tap on our bathroom was yellowish even after leaving it running a while, causing us to avoid taking a shower. The mixed-color towels felt like cardboard. Our toilet had not been cleaned when we came into the room. On the positive side, the bathroom is quite new.

The sitting area in our room had a brown velvet-covered couch, a two-seater looking more like old comfortable first-class train seats. The curtain was light-gray-cream color satin with a flower pattern. The curtains beside the bed had lots of holes in it. Some of our friends were staying in single rooms and their single bed was a pullout couch. The inside of the door of the room and the inside of the clothing cupboard is covered in camel-colored leather.

The staff is friendly and speaks English. Breakfast and dinner is good. Hradec Kralove is quite worth the visit, but in this hotel, better remind yourself it's just for sleeping...

“average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2006

I was in Hradec Kralove for business for 6 days in October. The organization who hired me booked the hotel and paid for it. I did have to pay one extra night out of my own pocket.
The hotel is average. I must have gotten the room that is not renovated yet, because it looked nothing like what they posted in their photo gallery on their website. My room was small and with old furniture, decor. However, it got a balcony, even though you couldn't sit outside anyway. The balcony faces the train station which is also where all buses come together. It could be a bit noisy if I left the door/window opened.
The room was ok, more like a motel room in the States... nothing fancy at all. I had to ask for sheet change after the 3rd night. I think the housekeeper tried to tell me they only change it after a consecutive 5 night stay.
It got quite cold at night and the heat could not be turned on for whatever reason. I had to ask for extra blanket.
The receptionists were usually quite good and friendly. The morning call was right on, but they didn't make sure that you pick up the phone. There was no alarm clock or hairdryer in the room. One benefit of facing the train station is that there's a huge clock when you look out of the window which is very visible, even at night.
The breakfast was pretty good, in Czech's standard. Some morning there was even someone at the station making fresh eggs or bacon for you. They like to burn the eggs though, so make sure you tell (or motion) them to flip soon. And good luck trying to get egg white only...
The hotel's location has its plus and minus. It is close to the train and bus station so if you arrive by train or bus, it's right there. There's a Tesco - a department store with big supermarket on the ground floor - less than 5 minutes on foot. However, the old town square, which I normally dine and walk around is 3-4 bus stops away. One could walk to the old town square from the hotel. It's about 15-20 minutes walk. But when you just wanted to get something to eat, you wished it's right outside of your hotel.
It was an ok stay. However, I would not be happy had I had to pay its published full price (1600 kc, about US $80) for the extra night. The organization who put me up must have a contract with them for a special rate. What I am trying to say is that it is not worth the value if you have to pay 1600 kc for a single room.
