Although this hotel gets mixed reviews, I thought it was comfortable (although a bit dark), clean and a good location. It would fall short of a 5 star hotel but you have to appreciate the fact that Czech is trying hard to catch up with western standards. I thought the staff provided great service and my massage at the spa after a day of biking was wonderful. I would recommend this hotel but just know its limitations.

The room was beautiful and clean. Its obviously the best hotel in town. The old wooden beams in the room made it so quaint. The bathroom was huge and the unique toilette made to look like a throne was funny.
The hotel is within blocks to the river and the main castle is within view. We were able to walk everywhere.
The food provided by the conference we attended was very tasty as well as the breakfasts. I am glad we got to stay at this hotel.
The only negative was that its a very expensive hotel.

Stell yourself against resistance of staff. Building is gorgeous (nevertheless standing there for hundreds of years...), furnishing is atempt to look old, although too many styles and kitchy. The worse experience though is the staff. You never get what you ordered (specific room, room service, table reservation, spa), even having the order in writen and confirmed by the hotel !!! Customer's complaints are replied with patience nevertheless resistance of staff and end-up with final answer "No, I can't do this for you even if I could".
We waited for specific large apartment for over a month, finally having it confirmed in written that at the specific weekend we will have it. Well what a surprise arriving and receiving double beded room with small extra bed /25sqm for 3 adults and dog was trully a challenge). They are not too many hotels in city downtown, returning home was not an option (too far) and hotel was (aparently) busy we had to accept it. No apology, only hostile approach and result. Room was ready for 2 people only an we did not manage (despite many requests) to get even extra (3rd) bathrobe or towels....And this disaster continued throughout our entire stay (luckily only 1 night) but in all departments - spa & restaurant.
Well - quite poor for claiming itself a 5* hotel who charges you as you were in the city of Rome. Pitty that such a beautiful place in even more beautiful city spoils the atmosphere.

You really don't make 5* hotel experience by equiping the rooms with oldish looking wooden furniture and nicely hand painted shutters, dressing up the staff into Middle Ages clothes and use the carpets that my grandma has at home all over the hotel. That is just not enough.

Service on low level, CRT TV over 10 years old, just cheap bathroom, really cheap, 20% of the toilet paper left as the standard so you can be Middle Agesly nervous you will run out of it, no wi-fi available in the rooms, kitchen so-so but not 5-stars quality at all... Dirt on the floor all Over my room and bathroom...

Take rather smaller hotels in Cesky Krumlov instead of this 5* parody.
