When you talk about location in one of the most wonderful medieval villages in Europe, the Hotel Zlaty Andel has just about the best prime location in this UNESCO world heritage gem of a village. The key to having a great experience in a town like Cesky Krumlov is to locate yourself in a spot that lets you walk to everything and be constantly surrounded by the atmostphere, the Zlaty Andel Hotel offers you this.
We visited the hotel in mid October hosting a boutique high end group of 26 and 13 rooms. LIke many small hotels in Europe, there are rarely two rooms the same. We had no complaints about accommodation from any of our clients and most gave feedback that the rooms were spacious, warm and interesting. The lobby has a nice casual eating area with great prices as the overcharging that happens in other locals in the Czech Republic has not reached Cesky Krumlov. Even the mini bar was a reasonable price. The hotel is very pleasant and rooms are located off mini-courtyards and off all sorts of interesting corridors and landings. The lobby is small and intimate like you would expect from a small boutique hotel. All staff was friendly and accommodating. Remember the rule of thumb, you get more bees with honey!
There are many restaurants, small shops and interesting sights surrounding the hotel and you don't need or want a car for exploration. The castle is a must-see and should not be missed. If you walk diagonally across the square, past the fountain, there is a restaurant right in the corner, to the right of the "Infocentrum", down a small alley, that is worth spending an evening. It is like dining in a Medieval cellar and has great atmosphere and authentic feel.
The Zlaty Andel is a great little hotel, not five star, but pleasant, welcoming and homey. We had a great stay on our way to the Danube!
