I can only confirm what has already been written below. Baannamping is a lovely, lovely place to stay. The riverside location is beautiful, and the staff extremely helpful (thank you Doi and Steffen) and well informed.
The rooms were clean and roomy, with citrus burners to keep the mosquitos away at night. They were cleaned daily. Breakfast was nice enough as well (Asian rice soup, or American breakfast. With fruit.) Coffee was served with hot milk - lovely!
We rented a motorbike in Chiang Mai and it took about half an hour from the centre of town to get to the resort. We felt comfortable driving this stretch at night as well as during the day. Renting a motorbike is easily worth it - it costs only 200 baht per day, much cheaper than taxis.
If you fancy a quiet place and don't mind not being right in the middle of things, this is a great option. It's also a brilliant base for exploring the villages, rice paddies and mountains in the area. We spent 4 days at the resort and were happy exploring the area without going into Chiang Mai for 3 of those days.
The nearest village (5 mins on motorbike, 10 mins on push bike, you can borrow one at reception) has a great early evening market with delicious food. There's also a minisupermarket or two.
The only downside, if I had to name any, is that the prices are a bit high compared to the average accommodation in Chiang Mai. But in return you get lots: peace and quiet and a lovely nature setting as well as very comfortable bungalows. We loved relaxing on our balcony with its sun loungers for the first day!
Room Tip: One of the standard rooms doesn't have a direct river view. All the other rooms do, I believe.
