“Loved everything but the restaurant”

We had a wonderful stay at Secret Harbor during the first week of November. Based on the advice of a previous review I called the resort ahead of time and requested an upgraded condo. They said they couldn't promise anything, but would try. We did end up with an upgraded unit, which was lovely and significantly nicer than the non-upgraded units appeared to be. Not sure if that's why we got it, but it's certainly worth the quick phone call to try. We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful as long as we showed some patience (which was easy to do in such a laid back, relaxing setting).

The unit and the beach would have gotten 5 stars, except that the bed wasn't very comfortable and the restaurant was underwhelming. The service and food were fine, but the selection was limited and most of the food was simply average (for above average prices). It would have been really nice to have better food available at the resort, and I would recommend skipping the Sunset Grille and going into Red Hook to eat.

The beach was absolutely beautiful, crystal clear water, white sand and great snorkeling. We saw lots of fish and a sting ray right in Secret Harbor. We would return to SH just for the beach alone. However, I would recommend following other travelers adivce about getting off the beach before dusk - we didn't and got eaten alive by the 'no-see-ums.'

During our stay we did a day trip with Pirates Penny to the BVI. It was a very well organized trip, though I probably wouldn't do it again. It was a long day in the heat, and though the sites were beautiful I don't know that I'd take a whole day out of our trip to do it again.

We ate at Havana Blue at the Marriot on our last night and would HIGHLY recommend it. It was expensive, but worth every penny. The food was unique and fabulous, and the setting was lovely. We also really enjoyed the fish place on the water in Red Hook (called Fish Tails, I believe).

I would highly recommend Secret Harbor, and am happy to answer questions if you have any.

Room Tip: Call and ask for an upgraded unit.

“Best snorkeling in the Atlantic!”

We stayed here as part of an extended trip to BVI to go sailing. The location is beautiful, but you must request a room on the beach. The restaurant was open over the Christmas holidays and the staff was helpful and friendly. We loved the two bedroom condo we rented. One of the amenities is a fully staffed and equipped dive/snorkel shop. We went snorkeling and scuba diving out behind the resort both during the day and at night and were treated to snorkeling that seemed like you were diving in someones saltwater tank. We saw reef squid, octopus and many tropical fish. We were delighted by our stay!

Room Tip: The property is on a giant slope down to the water, so you could have a water view and be a good way...

“Another week in Paradise”

While the condition of each condo may vary, management is always quick to fix any problem brought to their attention. New restaurant good, but pricier than in the past. Beach has more umbrellas now. Snorkeling marvelous & coral coming back.
Please don't go. I want to keep this Secret.

Room Tip: Best are oceanfront rooms on first floor! Can go in and out from beach like its your own backyard...

“Second stay - Looking forward to a third”

Small, quiet, comfortable, & unpretentious. Lovely, quiet beach w/ super-calm water - never even bothered to check out the pool. Spacious, clean rooms - not fancy, but all w/ kitchens & large balconies; Friendly staff, EXCELLENT restaurant (The Sunset Grille, formerly the Blue Moon) w/ terrific wine list. Only complaint, if you can call it that, is the so-so bar & less-formal Beach Club : Not bad, but nothing to write home about, either. On the whole, though, a really lovely & relaxing place. Those seeking flash and / or loads of pampering should look elsewhere.

“A Piece of Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We were there Jan 20-25. The view, the beach, and the water are every bit a beautiful as the photos...even more so. It is a lovely small hotel/condo complex located directly on the beach at Nazareth Bay. Snorkeling there is some of the best on the island and the dive shop is fully stocked for whatever your snorkeling/diving needs may be. The "Jester" is moored right in the bay for snorkeling and sailing charters and was a REAL treat. Highly recommended. We will take that trip again for sure! We stayed in the "hotel" portion of the complex which was nice and clean, but not overdone. We didn't pay as much as we would have for the condo units and were very pleased with the experience. The room was big and comfotable and had all we needed, especially since most of our time was spent on the beach right out the front door! The restaurant recently changed management/names and I was VERY impressed with the breakfasts we had there...we did not have lunch or dinner at the hotel as there are too many wonderful places to try in Red Hook which is just minutes away. Service was a bit slow, but we were happy to sit on the deck and enjoy the view while we drank our coffee. We did try the Ahi Tuna Nachos one afternoon which were hand-delivered to us at our lounge chairs on the beach along with fruity beach drinks and very cold beer! Highly recommended! Its a great value for the price, and if I had more people in my party I'd probably try the condos, but the hotel room suited us nicely. Its a lovely place for a family or a couple. I'll be back for sure!
