My wife and I stayed for two nights in January. The first night, hospitality and service were great. The second night...not so much. The server on day 1 was friendly and helpful. The server on day 2 was unhelpful and appeared to be looking to log her time. Although we made several hints that we would like to have a table next to the fireplace in the pub room, in the end she pushed us into the green room (which was freezing cold). They never did light a fire in the pub room that evening.
We booked this place because we wanted to find a place where we could relax by the fire, read a book and enjoy a pint. This is not that place. We felt like we were putting them out by asking for a fire and they are strict about only lighting fires at meal times.
The bathrooms need a bit of updating as the shower head is way too short and the water pressure is low, however the rooms are not too bad.
The gardens are amazing and the breakfasts were excellent!
All in all, we may stay here again in the future, if for nothing else to see the gardens in the summer. A couple of little tweaks, and this place would be fantastic!
