My friends and i stayed at the Spread Eagle for 2 nights in January - three of us in the party had a birthday over the weekend that we stayed. There are only 5 rooms in the pub, and it was very quiet when we arrived on the Friday night - we felt like we where being a bit raucous having had a few drinks! The staff where wonderful and very accommodating though. The food was lovely, although not a huge choice if you are staying for more than one night. In the morning we had a lovely cooked breakfast to prepare us for our walk in the gardens - one of our party was a bit cheeky and suggested that the breakfast could do with some beans and black pudding.. the next morning when we ordered breakfast - lo and behold.. beans and black pudding had been brought especially for us! At dinner on the second night, having overheard that 2 of us where celebrating our birthday, they brought out our deserts with candles in.. These are the sort of touches that make you remember a place and want to come back - which we will! Stourhead gardens are beautiful - i can't wait to see them in full bloom, and also come back and terrorize the wonderful staff of the spread eagle! :o)

Had lunch which was tasteless and unimaginitive. Service is average ( cleaning of tables with spray cleaners whilst customers still around). They rely too much on the beauty of Stourhead to carry the poor attempt at providing good country food

Historic Inn provided an interesting and restful place for our visit to Stonehenge. While not in the immediate vicinity, it was close enough and gave us more of a look at the countryside. Grounds were beautiful with flowers and ponds galore. Pub was a welcoming place and the food was good.

We visited the Spread Eagle today,having had 2 previous visits which were both very happy events.Today, we`d been for a walk and it was wet!
We just wanted a warm and relaxing place with good pub food and this is exactly what we got!
From the moment we entered the place we felt at home,found a nice table in view of the lovely wood burning stove and were asked what we would like in a very welcoming way.
We had lovely locally sourced ham sandwiches served with an excellent side salad.
We could have stayed and had endless lovely things, but next time!
All the staff were so friendly!
We also met a family staying at the Inn and they were very content also!This is what made me look at the Spread Eagle on Trip Advisor.
