“The good and mostly the bad of the Beach House Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

It took me about 30 minutes to find this hotel because the address on google maps was wrong and then the hotel had absolutly no signage...I needed to ask at the front desk if I was in the right place. I had called for directions and the person on the other end was quite dismissive. I ended up stopping at another hotel to get directions.

The staff offered to help me with my bags which was really nice becaue my room was on the second floor and the only way up was via a very narrow staircase.

When I got to the room, I was a little bit surprised at how small it was. I knew I was going to a boutique hotel, but I thought there would be a little bit more room. With the bed and the side tables in the room, I barely had enough room to open my suitcase. The bathroom was basically a closet. When I went to have a shower, I didn't have enough room to wash my hair, and then the shower went from scalding hot to ice cold in the matter of seconds. Also, my room was located right above the water pump, so anytime that someone else in the hotel would use the water, the pump would run.

When ordering drinks be sure to specify that you want Don Q rum if you'd like to use the coupons they give you...otherwise they will use something else.

Breakfast is a little scant, but was enough for me.

The beach was absolutly beautiful and they had some really nice outdoor furniture for the beach. Location is excellent.

This hotel was fine for what I used it for... a place to sleep before my plane in the morning. Not sure if I would stay here again though.

Thank you for your review of our hotel. Regarding your comment of lack of signage, we are currently working on the design of our new sign and will have one up in the next couple of weeks. The water pressure problem in the city affects our abilty to provide constant pressure to our guest rooms, thus the need for a water pump, which in turn affects how our water heaters work. This is problem we are addressing and doing our best to correct. The tip to ask for Don Q for the complimentary drink is excellent, however this gift to our guests is a promotion of "Rums of Puerto Rico" which includes all Rum brands.

We left after one night because the rooms were dirty and I found a full clip of 9mm Glock bullets and an empty cocaine bag in my room.

“Scary!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We had a syringe under our bed, sand in our bed, no hot water. Had to wear ear plugs to sleep because the music was so loud. Our "great view" was of a storage room. Don't let the pictures fool you!! I will admit that the beach was nice.

“If you don't go to bed until 4 a.m. this is for you!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We had the most expensive room in this boutique hotel. (Room 18).( $275 per night).
Although there were much less expensive rooms. The hotel is on 2 levels which is nice b/c no elevator waits. It is right on the beach and has plenty of nice places to sunbath without having to reserve a place before dawn as in the big hotels. The photos are accurate. HOWEVER, the noise from the bar/restaurant is outrageous until 3 a.m. Music is very loud. We had hot water (it trickled out) but every day I saw people at the reception complaining about no hot water. (I think ours had a separate tank). The restaurant used to be quite nice with good food but it changed ownership the weekend we were there (Jan.18-22) and the food turned out to be dreadful. Even the salad was tired and warm. Pity... b/c previously it was rather good when we had eaten there before. One problem is there is no visible management. Nobody really is in charge or cares. It is a great shame as the location and beach access is fabulous. The hotel is falling into disrepair, rusting railings etc. The front desk young people were always very polite. By the way the a/c in the room we had had a blue light on it that lit up the room at night. No room telephone. No soap in the bathroom. Had to ask for a hairdryer....no plug in the bathroom. No windows on the side wall only weather shutters. (this could have been why the bar/restaurant was so loud.) Take some sleeping pills with you and you 'might' be ok. I really don't believe we would stay there again even for free.

Room Tip: Do not stay near the bar....I hear the back might be better...Room 15 might be the one.

“For the price, a good place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

For it's price, you won't find a better place to stay on Isla Verde. It's on the beach and has tons of character, a restaurant/ bar, rooms with balconies overlooking the ocean and is affordable. However it's not excellent, and if you can afford to pay more you should consider staying elsewhere. I stayed here in Jan. of '10 and loved it despite the fact it was in a state of disrepair- nothing essential was broken but the bars under the railings were rusting and falling off, the windows were all rusted shut and there were signs of water damage everywhere. I stayed here again in Jan. '12 and it's gone even more downhill since my last visit. There was no hot water for the third night of my stay, the waitstaff were rude and inattentive (unlike in '10 when they were wonderful!) and the restaurant was inexplicably closed without warning on the last night of our stay. Again, I highly recommend this place if it's in your price range but it's a bit of a gamble.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony, on the second floor, overlooking the ocean.
