“Clean, cheap, moderately charming place to sleep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I have stayed at the Borinquen twice now, both times in January of this year. If you're looking for the cushy amenities of a beach resort, go elsewhere. If you're looking for a clean, cheap place to sleep, stay here.

The Borinquen is a tiny little place nestled in amongst the huge resorts on Isla Verde. The location is great; a 60 second walk gets you to the beach. Parking is free, which is excellent. Rooms are about half the price of anything else on Isla Verde. Beds are comfortable, and bathrooms are clean. There's a community kitchen where you can store leftovers in the refrigerator or make yourself breakfast if you like (there's a grocery store not far away).

Rooms range from small and crowded to large and roomy (I have seen/stayed in 4 of the rooms now).

There are not as many "amenities" in the room as the bigger hotel chains offer. No little bottles of shampoo or lotion; a few bars of soap and some water glasses are all you need. They do have cable TV, and the air conditioner in the room works well.

Definitely a good choice if you'd like to stay on the beach for a fraction of the cost.

Room Tip: If you're booking a double room, see if you can request Rm 111. It's HUGE and beautiful. I...

“Budget gem”

My wife and were looking for someplace reasonable for a four day stay in San Juan, close to everything and the airport included. We took a Taxi from Ponce on Sunday, and our driver suggested the Borinquen Beach Hotel. We arrived in the afternoon, and were greeted by "Grace" the hotel clerk. She was very friendly and helpful, since we were early for check in, she put our luggage in her office, and chatted with us for a while. Once we were checked in, we were shown to our room, the best in the house according to Grace. It was spacious, clean, and the beds turned out to be quite comfortable, with plenty of hot water. We would for sure stay again in the future. The manager, Jorge was also very helpful and friendly. Also, the beach was about a half block away!, and very clean and pleasant.

Room Tip: If you are going to stay more than a few days, the common kitchen is great for making snacks and kee...

“Clean, simple, unexpensive.”

We stayed at Borinquen 1 night before our cruise. It's very close from the airport ( 5 min ) and close to ship terminal ( 10 min ). Rooms are clean, simple and it worked for us just to spend the night. Check-in was fast and easy. They have little kitchen if you wish to prepare light breakfast in the morning. The only thing you should be aware is the noise outside on the street. The hotel is located on pretty busy street and you can hear people and cars laud past mid-night. Did not bother us too much. However, it may bring inconvenience to people who sleep not that strong as we do.
Overall, if you don't expect anything special and you are on the budget this hotel is a very good choice for the money.

“Great!”

I visited PR during Thanksgiving break with my college roomate. I was on a budget and needed an affordable, clean, safe place to stay. It was infornt of a gorgeous beach and very centric (farmacy, restaurants, entertainment.) Despite being 2 girls in a hotel room we felt safe, there was staf 24/7 at the gated entrance. The hotel recomended we go to Bebo's Cafe for thanksgiving -- affordable yummy PRican food. Getting there was cheap too, 75 cents each way. Overall it was a good experience, definitely hope to return!

“One night in Puerto Rico”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

I needed a cheap place to stay for just one night that was close to the SJU airport.
There were plenty to choose from and I did read a bunch of reviews before deciding on
Borinquen Beach Inn.
I don't understand how anyone can give this spot 4 or 5 stars. I agree with many of the
different factors that go into that rating but it's hard to comprehend or compare a stripped
down, bare bones hotel like Borinquen Inn with some of the more established chains that
offer more amenities.
What Borinquen Beach Inn lacks in features, they make up for it in service and comfort.
It doesn't look like much from the outside, but my room was clean. That is more important than fancy interior decorating. I don't know what the parking situation is here but it's hard for me to look pass the steel bar front door which requires a staff member to buzz you in.
The bright side to that is I do feel more secure knowing that they take that seriously.
Others can take that thinking it's a seedy neighborhood. None-the-less, for what I pay, I believe it was worth it. I don't recommend staying more than 2 nights. I believe there are 12 units here and the closer you are to the front desk, than the more noise you will hear.
The staff is friendly and will take care of you. The only thing modern is the tv but again, that's ok. For the purpose of having the very basic requirements along Isla Verde Beach, then this will fulfill that for a cheaper rate. But don't come here expecting to have the frills that you're used to with other hotels. It's great for an over-nighter but not for a longer vacation. Take it for what it is...A clean, no frills hotel in an ideal location- period.

Room Tip: As far away from the front desk
