“Better than Expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

After reading the range of reviews of this hotel, my wife and I were somewhat concerned. We just returned from a 5 day/ night stay from 2/5-2/9. Overall, our stay was very pleasant-most of the staff seemed sincerely interested in providing a high level of friendly customer service-with afew exceptions. Our check-in took twenty minutes because the front desk clerk disappeared into the office for 15 minutes without an explanation either before or after. It took an hour for our luggage to be delivered to our room from downstairs and there was no safe in our room. The room also seemed dated and the bathtub grout was less than pristine. However, the pool was magnificent and the front door staff was genuine and friendly.

Room Tip: ask for an ocean view room-well worth it

“Nice hotel for the price we got”

We stayed here October of 2011 as we got a really good deal via Cheap Caribbean other wise we probably wouldn't have gone down. The hotel was an older property however they've done a really good job with the updates and maintenance. The pool was very fun and located right beside the beach which is my favorite set-up. The property has a very nice beach out front and the water was terrifically warm. The water was very rough a couple days which worked up a ton of seaweed so that wasn't real fun but we made do! They have a gentleman you can pay to put beach chairs out for you which was fantastic.

We didn't eat at the property as their prices were beyond ridiculous. And if there was anything I would say bad about the whole area is the food!!! I generally can eat anything but I had some of the worst food I've ever had and it didn't matter where we ate with the exception of breakfast. We found a wonderful little diner down the road that did a good job. I'm sorry I guess I'm spoiled with the Mexican food we love from the Riveria Maya.

We were within walking distance to a large grocery store, pharmacies, party stores etc. so was very nicely located. If we had to do over now that we've been there we would stay down near Old San Juan but for our first time this was a good selection. So over all a good property, not perfect but for the price we paid perfectly acceptable.

Room Tip: We paid extra and have a pool view room and we loved it as they have a frog that makes noises at dus...

“Great spot for a getaway”

Amazing pool, great beach and a very nice lobby. Friendly staff at every turn and outstanding concierge service. Rooms need a little work but overall a great stay. Not much to do around the area and quite a hike into Old San Juan ($25 cab each way) but the resort was well worth the trip.

Room Tip: upgrade to a junior suite if possible

“unkept promises”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed at the Intercontinental because we could use our points however we needed an additional room as another couple joined our group. When we checked in the 3rd room was not ready and the front desk clerk Edgard was pushing for us to sign up with the Ambassador program stating that all extra fees and upgrades would be waved upon us signing up. That meant we would get $272 in upgrades for paying the $200 enrollment fee for the Ambassador program. We told Edgard that we would think about it and discuss it furthjer when we came back to get the card for the 3rd room. 2 hours later we came back and it still wasn't ready so they offered us a room on the 15th floor rather than on the 9th floor with the rest of the group. We took the room and also told Edgard we would sign up for the Ambassador program and reiterated again the original offer. We completed the transaction and thge next morning I had my statement showing the upgrade charges and the Ambassador fee, I was assured it would all be corrected. Not true as 5 weeks later 5 calls I have made to the front desk Managers have not been returned and even e mails to Intercontinental's corporate site have not resloved the issues. They refunded 1 of the upgrade fees and then another $50 after my e mail for corporate office but no phone calls explaining why they won't refund the other $136. Very disappointing as the hotel is a great vaction choice but this leaves a very bad taste and should be a warning to everyone that goes there that they do not honour their promises.
