“Not a 4 star experience”

The hotel is definitely conveniently located, 5 minutes from the airport, friendly staff and pretty grounds with an on site spa, tennis courts, pool and beach front. Loved the 2 restaurants: il Mulino and BLT steak. Staff is generally very nice and try to be helpful but 2 things left a poor taste in my mouth. First, they put us in a room that had at best luke warm to cold water running in the shower despite several attempts by staff to rectify the situation. They offered a different room the day before we left, but frankly, why put us in there to begin with? Secondly, they offered a 100 dollar a day resort credit (which would be nice considering that a meal is easily 300 dollars for 2) and then told me that they didn't see this promotion booked appropriately through expedia. How would I have known about it had I not been offered the promotion. Considering one is paying 450 to 500 a night, for 3 nights, throwing you the small resort credit bone would seem in their best interest to at least honor. NOT the 4 start experience we were hoping for.

Room Tip: test the shower immediately

“Always a pleasure”

Love going here as it is a quick trip from New York, close to the airport, and has great service and access to the beach. The hotel pool is one of the better features. Run into a lot of folks from New York and East Coast. Il Mulino in the building. The casino is so so but that is not the reason to go anyways.

“Nice place-great little beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Great service. Room view was mediocre -we overlooked the airport. Beach was nice.
We had our 3 kids with us and at times felt a little awkward as it seemed as quiet as a library (and our kids do not like to go to the library on vacation).
We were able to walk to the Metropol across the street for dinner for a reasonably priced dinner that was pretty good. There was a Walgreens as well within walking distance for whatever you may need - we needed a little air matress and beer).
Casino was small but had the table games. Seemed like the slot machines were mostly penny version. Hard to get a drink at times. I played video poker twice and never got a drink. There was not a bartender there. I actually went to my room to get a drink (from Walgreen's) and came back down. You could bring your drinks in.
Beach was nice. Small waves that the kids could play in and enjoy.
Overall, we had a nice time.

“Dont believe the negatives...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We took a recent trip without the kids for 5 days. We booked everything and then started reading some of the negative reviews on trip advisor and started getting a bit worried. First if you are traveling with kids, some guy complained about $20 kids pasta meal. We looked at all but one of the menues in the hotel. None of the kids items was over $10 most were $8, so dont let that worry you. Next is the sound from the airport. Yes you are next to the airport, yes you can hear some of the jets taking off. They are not that loud, few and far between and sometimes you go hours before you even notice one. The food at the pool is good not great, but it is poolside food so what do you expect. We ate at BLT twice, BLT is always great. We ate at the lobby bar once for light dinner. The food was great, but had to be sent back because it was cold. When we got it back it was great, it is just that the kitchen is on the other side of the hotel from the lobby so it has to travel, add that to any delay in the waitress picking it up and you get luke warm food. The drinks in the lobby are great and the atmosphere is comfortable. Rooms are great and clean, no worries about that. The one thing i didnt understand was the beach and pool lounge chair covers. Everything in the resort is clean, spotless and well taken care off. The covers were alomost all ripped and falling apart and some of the chairs were actually broken. No idea why anyone would have a complaint about this hotel except that the just need to complain.

“Excllent Stay, Impecable service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We stayed here in February 2012 on the club level. Form the moment we checked in to the moment we check out, we were treated as treasured guest. Each request was met with "My Pleasure."

The grounds of the hotel are spotless, well manicured and continously cleaned. We played tennis and took tennis lessons - our pro Kamil was very thorough and our group clinic for 1.5 hours in the mid days sun was exhausting - and left us all sweating and smiling..

I had a deep tissue massage in the spa - simply wonderful. The spa is a bit small, with just a ladies and gents locker room and a shared whirlpool and finnish sauna. Not a lot of relaxation space. Exercise space was adequate with tredmill, elliptical, bike and universal. I did not take any of the classes - it appeared there were two per day.

We sat at the pool, and sat at the beach, no problem having the pool staff find and set up loungers and umbrellas. We ordered drinks and light snacks from the pool waiters as well as ordered ourselves from the bar. The pool waiters were a little slow, and we had to hunt them down (after waiting quite a long time) to close our tab. The service in the bar from Robert and Elmer was exceptional.

We frequented the club lounge for a light breakfast, mid day snack and pre-dinner drinks. The staff was incredibly accomodating, mixing any cocktail, including tasty mojitos. Wine, champagne, cappucino, tea, soda and water were available through out the day. Well worth the upgrade.

We had a cooked to order breakfast each day in the cafe. Service was good, but the room is all tile and glass, and quite noisy. For some reason - there was always lots of breakage each day, dishes and glasses breaking and smashing on the tile floor.

The casino was quite fun - much lower minimums at tables than I have seen at other upscale resorts. Saturday table minimum bet was $2. Not too crowded, the usual slot hogs in place.

We had a memorable meal at Il Mulino. Expert waitstaff and an Outstanding captain (Steven). WE enjoyed the welcome treats as well as the strawberry grapa that concluded our evening. My only complaint was the incredible markup on the wine - 5x retail?? I think we were one of the only tables with a bottle. They'd sell more if the markup were more reasonable, and the list expanded more than just the "well know" wines. Time to add some QPR gems to the list.

The location is close to the airport, but there is no overwhelming noise. A cab ride from the airport was about $15, which included some charge for luggage.

It is a $21 cab ride into Old El San Juan. THe taxi's are almost all very large vans than can easily accomodate 6.

One small complaint was the timing of the room cleaning. Service was provided twice a day - in the "morning" and then again around 5 PM. Everyday - our room was not serviced until 2 PM or LATER. So we would come back to the room - still dirty. No clean towels. I Don't understand why the rooms, particularly on the club level couln't be serviced by 12:30. But honestly, it was a small inconvenience for an outstanding visit.

Excellent visit - I will return.

Room Tip: Club level - ocean view.
