“A Gem of a B&B”

Imagine a small village on the hillside in the "Pueblo Blanca" area of Andalucia, Spain. At the top of the village is a multi-storied house with white stucco and color everywhere. A swimming pool with views of the hills and rooms with unusual colors and terrific views as well. El Tejar is a place for reflection, for information on hiking the area, for advise on driving the region, for good food and international companionship. We stumbled on the web site while looking into the Ronda B&Bs. El Tejar is just about 30 minutes from Ronda as well as close to the villages of Zahara, Grazelema, Sentinal, and others. The owner, Guy, is from England, is a writer, an artist, and a great host. The price per night is quite reasonable. Our two room suite was 70EU in May, featuring great views, full bath, and private seating area.
We have been doing B&Bs for over 20 years and have not found one as beautiful and well suited for us as El Tejar.

“Perfect base for walking in Andalusia”

Guy Hunter-Watts, the owner of the place is a super host. When my wife & I stayed there, their where three other couples resident. We where concerned about having dinner on our first nights stay, sitting around the table with six complete strangers, but it was great, all having a common interest, mainly in walking.
The following morning, Guy was involved with everyone, ensuring we where set up for the day, booking taxis, advising on bus & train times, (very important if like most of us during our stay, the preference was to walk down hill), also offering walks from his latest book of walking in the area.
The top end of the small village, Montecorto, where El Tejar is located, is most interesting. I hadn’t seen a woman scrub cloths in an open stream before except on TV.
The two local restaurants are not up to much, but Guy will suggest others including 'Quercus' in the railway halt village of Jimera de Libar. Perfect for a late lunch after a 2&1/2 hour walk down the river valley.

“Perfect getaway”

What a find!! El Tejar is nestled at the top of a small local village, 20 minutes from Ronda. Guy (the owner) made us feel especially welcome from the moment we arrived. The house is basically expected to be used as your home whilst staying there. You have access to a bar (nominal charge, 1 EURO per beer or glass of wine), free internet, amazing selection of books and of course a beautiful log fireplace.

We all sat around on arrival and drank red wine and chatted (2 other couples and Guy). It was nice to be able to talk English to someone, yet go up the street and talk Spanish!!

Guy recommended some great restaurants in Ronda for us and also a great place to stop on the way to Sevilla (at Arcos de la Frontera).

The rooms had lovely decor, comfy beds and amazing views over the countryside. There is plenty of parking nearby, and the village is not hard to find.

We were only at El Tejar for one night unfortunately, and when we go back it will be for a minimum of 3 nights. It is a magical place. An easy drive from both Granada, Sevilla and Malaga, El Tejar is a must on any Andalucian holiday!

“A small piece of heaven”

Five years my husband and I fled the cold damp miserable english weather and escaped to Andalucia and purely through happenstance found ouselves in a wonderful place called in El Tejar. From the moment we stepped over the threshold of the owner's house we were welcomed, from the warmth of our host's greeting to the ambience of his lovely house we were soon made to feel at home. El Tejar nestles in a particularly lovely and quiet mountain village and we were able to enjoy the beautiful walks and tranquillity of this beguiling area which remains unspoilt. Guy Hunter-Watts was the perfect host, he made himself available to answer our myriad questions about things to see and do in the local area and at other times unobtrusively ensured that we were able to enjoy the comfort of his charming house, be it the selection of CD.s,his extensive library and the pretty rooms, in other words we were made to feel utterly at home and at ease. Since our first introduction nearly six years to El Tejar was so magical we return there every year to restore and replenish ourselves in the beauty and comfort of the haven created by Guy Hunter-Watts.

“A fabulous hideaway...”

This was my fifth stay at El Tejar. I love the location: its is the highest house in the village and the views (I have my favourite room ´Cadiz') are simply amazing.
As soon as you walk in through the front door you feel like you're coming home and this place is really true to what the owner claims: 'mi casa es tu casa'.
As a walker this place has offered me all that I need and more. Guy has written a guide to the area and he has masses of maps and route notes. Some of the walks here are simply incredible: I particularly loved the one that looped through Grazalema, a pretty white village which is just a few miles from El Tejar.
The rooms are great. There's a feel of Morocco in the colours and fabrics and there are lots of little details like heated towel rails, CD players and tea and coffee on offer throughout the day.
Whenever I travel to the Ronda area this is my first choice. It is peaceful, relaxing, comforatble and, high on my personal checklist - FUN.
And what you get for your euros is amazing.I've stayed at places nearby which are twice as expensive and not nearly as nice.
